Hi all! :P
I'm new here ..
I'm living in India and I need some suggestiions to buy a good DVD Player
I'm actually pretty greed coz' I want all the known file formats to be recognized by my DVD player! :P
It should be able to read DVD, VCD, ACD, MP3, WMA, KVCD, SVCD, DVD-R, DVD-RW and also DivX, XviD!
I've actually found out that Philips only sell their DVD player with DivX capability here in India..
I also found the model to be DVP 5100..
The fix is that I heard some problems from an user using this particular model.. that it didn't play divx as mentioned and DVD -RWs!!
I need more info on this product please..
Is it multi - region as well?
and what other Divx players would you guyz suggest?
or is a DVD player with DivX capability required at all? coz' 4 aVi's can be crammed into a single - layer DVD?
--------------------------------
and one more question -- Pioneer doesn't have a DVD player with Divx as of now, but when I asked in the shop , the guy told me that some pioneer DVD players did play divx CDs as well even without being specified !!
Is this true at all?
EDIT : here's another ad on Ebay India for Philips High End DVD Player DVP-642K with DivX Support ===
http://cgi.ebay.in/Philips-High-End-DVD-Player-DVP-642K-with-DivX-Support_W0QQitemZ583...QQcmdZViewItem
Is this Ok?? Can I go in for this player ?? no problems?

Well, to start with, KVCD isn't a standard, so you won't find anything that explicitly supports it.
Secondly, if it doesn't carry the Divx logo, then it isn't licensed and any Divx support is probably iffy at best. Pioneer actually do produce models with Divx support. In Australia, both the DV383 and DV686A models support Divx playback, and are advertised as such on their website. They also appear to support everything else you have specified, with the exception of the aforementioned KVCD (note: KVCD/KDVD is simply an optimised low-bitrate matrix to try to squeeze more running time onto a disk. Some swear by it, however I have always found the quality to be dubious, and not equivelent to a properly encoded disk with correct bitrates. If you must fit 2 or 3 movies to a disk then you need to take a long hard look at yourself)
Personally, I have always owned Pioneer DVD playback kit, and always been happy with the build, visual quality and longevity. I think they make very good kit.Read my blog here.

Hi there,
Maybe you'd like to check these models from Kiss.
The reviews look great.
Maybe not a big brand or anything but these will do the job properly.

@guns1inger
I'm not even going to argue with you about the visual quality of KVCD/KDVD when compared to anything else.
But I'd like to make you thing clear.
"The Notch" is not an optimized low-bitrate matrix.
"The Notch" is an optimized matrix, period.
It so happens that this matrix compresses a lot better than the standard MPEG matrix.
But KVCDs are far from being VCDs using a different matrix.
As for KDVDs, the settings won't differ much from the standards.
As opposed to KVCD, KDVDs are playable on virtually ANY standalone player out there.
You should read a bit more about this @ www.kvcd.net.
Just make sure you check it's specs on the top/left menu.
BTW do you have anything against someone wanting to make a 2 or 3 movie backup DVD???
Hope I could help.
Cheers -
I have seent he website, and downloaded the samples, and was less than impressed at the artifacts contained in them. The quality is not as good as a single movie encoded at the correct bitrate, and shows obvious blocking in the fast sequences.
As for squeezing three movies to a disk - what is the point of taking something high quality and making it low quality for the sake of a couple of disks ? It is like taking a Porche and removing half the spark plugs to save a few bucks in fuel.Read my blog here.

It's in French, but if you look at their specifications, you'll see KVCD clearly in there.

I just bought LG DS-9533 for Rs. 3500/-. It plays all the divX and Xvid movies that I have thrown at it so far. Picture quality is pretty good. U can try it. Don't know about KVCD support.

DivX Chip based on MTK? -
It should be available all over India. I live in a small city myself. I have not used it with any DVD-media except for original DVDs, but I read an article in techtree.com which warn of using cheap DVD disc as it could reduce the lifespan of the player's lens. Go for branded DVD-media. Same goes for CDs though it plays all brands of CDs.
As for the player chipset, I have no idea nor is there any information about it on the website or manual. Hope this help u. If u have the opportunity, compare it with Samsung P650K and plz let me know. The Samsung model is not available in my city. -
OK! I've got the LG DS 9533 DivX Player and it rockss...!
Supports all kinds of subtitles in divx as well!
