Do not make the mistake I did by buying this encoder, I was influenced by the fast encoding speed of this program but I have had nothing but problems with it. Alot of the AVI files I encode play back jerky after I burn them with Nero. If I encode the same file with DVDSanta or DivxToDVD and burn with Nero it plays just fine. Their tech support is a joke, you send them a technical problem you get a stupid response that trys to divert responsibility from their product. Here's an example, I send them plenty of details and they want me to send them a reply back with details. Do not buy this junk software, spend your money on one of the many fine other AVI to DVD decoders........

    Dear Sir,
Really sorry about the problem, would you please check whether the
converted DVD can be well played with your computer.
The WinAVI Video Converter also can burn, you set it in this way and
burn the disc to have a try:
MENU--->Options--->Use the build in CD burner.
If you have any other problem, please contact with me and give me the
    detailing about it.
    Yours
    Sincerely
    Sandra

The problem is inherent to all-in-one methods. Insert unknown file, get unknown output. No care given to settings of source or output.

    It's their fault. Yours too.

Good work require attention to detail. All-in-one solutions just don't allow for that.

WinAvi is the biggest piece of monkey crap ever
I could have told you that ....... for freeee

I don't see any problem with the response you got from Sandra. Computers are more forgiving than DVD players and the first step she's trying to do is either confirm or rule out your DVD as a possibility. If it stutters on your computer as well, then it ain't your DVD player, is it ?

... and to be fair, you ARE converting (most likely) downloaded crap created by some pimply-faced warez monkey, and it's a sheer miracle (not to mention a reflection of true brilliance of the individual programs involved) that DivxtoDVD et al. can convert it at all, but I digress ....
    If in doubt, Google it.

DivxToDVD is VERY fast, especially the free version. You could have asked us to make recommendations on a MPEG encoder/DVD maker before you bought WinAVI.

I've sent their tech support other problems in the past and I get the same cheezy response. I always appreciate a technical response from tech support. The disc plays the same on 3 different stand-alone DVD players I have, I do not have a DVD decoder installed on my PC so I can't play it back there. I've tried burning TV episodes I've recorded to AVI as well as some downloaded stuff with the same results. I'm curious to know what makes this software not work as well as DivxToDvd, I'm also using the last free version of DivxToDvd (0.52.99) which works great, I'm curious to know if the 2.0 version they are selling is that much better and worth buying. Any other recommendations on all in one encoders? I'm very frustrated with WinAvi.

    Thanks.

I didn't have to pay for mine (beta tester), but I truly think it's worth the cash. Why don't you give the free trial a ...... um, trial ......... before purchasing though ?

I don't know whether it's still an issue, but the trial version puts a watermark right up the top (which generally appears in the black bars), and is also twice as slow to convert, but it gives you the general feel of the new options available in the app. So you'd just use it on a couple of sample files and not on stuff you truly want to keep
    If in doubt, Google it.

hi erock7625, Actually, I've used the winavi for about one year, and never experienced any problem. Anyway, I learnt from its site that if user's problem really cannot be solved, they will refund he. So you do not need to be so frustrated.
By the way, I know that winavi has a trial version for users to try before they buy the program. I wonder whether you tried with that before you decided to buy it.
(As for the response from Sandra, I do not think there is any problem either. Of course you can tell everything you want and blame them as you want, we have free speech, just do not abuse the person who tried to help you.)

Hi guys, i use WinAVI for about 2 years now and i don't have any problem at all. The audio is NOt out of sync. However only the quality is not that GREAT.
I convert all the AVI files in batch into 1 folder DVD. then i used DvDShrink to create ISO file so that i can burn it to DVD. or i use DVDLab Pro to create the menu and piled into ISO file too.

    So what's your excuse?

  12. 1 in your original mail you state the you want to convert to ntfs, i think you ment ntsc, typo i guess
2 i have to disagree with you on serveral points:
you say you're not able to play back dvd's on you pc, if you have a mpeg2 decoder installed on your pc, you can play black the vob files to give you an idea.
3 dvdsanta is slower an the picture quality is inferior compared to the one produced by winavi
4 final pint a real life example, i had a film source (xvid) 23.96 fps which i wanted to convert to dvd mpeg2 pal 25 fps
i ran the whole thing to winavi, and i experienced som jerkyness inplaying back the produced dvd, did the same thing with dvd santa (trial version) same result, but noticible less picure quality, what was the cause and what would the solution could be? , wel i live in pal country 25 frames per second, so what i did was change the framerate of the videostream with with virtual dub to 25 instead of the 23.96, used belight to speed up the audiostream to 25 to keep audio and video in sync, muxed audio and video together again and put winavi back to work again, result perfect within the limited capacity of winavi ofcourse. I think if you want to do video conversion you need to have some understanding. and use rewritable dvd's to make sure that the final dvd is what you want it to be
