  1. Hey all, my friend gave me a dvd movie that he made and it has a sex scene that I wanna take out.

How would I go about this? Would I have to rip the audio to mpeg2 audio so that I can edit the video and the audio together? because it's dolby 5.1 right now and I would like to leave it as dolby 5.1 if possible. Please give me the steps or direct me to a guide. I don't know how to rip from dvd to mpeg2 (or whatever i should rip it to) either...

Thanks for helping out a newbie.

  3. You could do a quick & crude chop with DVD Shrink.
Just Re-author the main title, using the Set Start/End Frames feature. You'll have two titles & the transition won't be perfectly seamless, but it's quick & easy (and free).

Your friend "made" a movie with a sex scene in it? Is it a home movie? Interesting. Deviant, but interesting.

There are several guides to the left to help you in this situation. If you search around you can find this info also. Possibly be aware that you may get flamed for wanting to censor something... Not a good subject to bring up.

    Yeah I figured

Anyway, I'm looking at a dvd shrink reauthor guide and I am now seeing that I have to drag the right files to the left side of the screen which is the "Re-authored dvd" side.

Do I only drag the main movie over? If I dragged everything over (menu, chapter menu, extras) over would it still work right? I figure if i cut something out it might mess up the other stuff. Maybe not though. Help!

DVD LabPro will let you "cut" out scenes by highlighing the start/end sections you don't want included. The original mpeg stays asis, but when the movie gets to the start point, it jumps immediately to the end point of your "cut" scene. Since the mpeg is never actually cut, video/audio sync shouldn't suffer any...

Keep in mind that a smart viewer would be able to rewind backwards to the "deleted" scene (if they knew it was there).

  7. Drag only the main movie.

(If you were to drag "everything" over, the menus would not function correctly. They retain functionality only in Full Disc mode.)

Use the Start/End Frames feature to set the end frame to the moment before nudity.

Drag over the main movie again (below the first one you just trimmed).
Now use the Start/End Frames feature to set the start frame to the moment after nudity.

You should now have two titles which should play in succession.

Will the 5.1 audio be used by default?

  12. A company called ClearPlay either has, or shortly will have a dvd player that will do that automatically for you.

Maybe not for now, but in the future if your children are still young.

I've never condoned censorship, but hey just about ever tv station (as well as some cable/sat channels) have done it for ages, so why cant you?!

Kudos for asking the question, maybe it'll teach some of those stuffy hardliners out there that, (ahem, they have the right to backup their video blah blah blah, but feel that editing is wronging the makers.) If ya have the power to back, edit etc it should somewhat be your descreation (SP!) how its used in YOUR household...to an extent of course..

If you have TDA, just import the video into a project, then edit out the scene(s) there. TDA has an excellent editor (cutter).

I have successfully made the backup using your method. Thanks.

One question though. When im on the first half of the movie (title 1) i can't jump to title 2. I just have to wait for it to move on with normal play. Once it get's to the 2nd half of the movie (title 2) I can't seem to rewind back to the first half (title 1). It's no biggie, but it would be nice to be able to.

There is a title button on my sony controller (I have an old sony dvd player) but nothing worked.

Do you know how to jump between titles?
    Quote Quote
  19. My Sony DVD player has a button called 'search mode' that triggers a title # screen. There I can push up (arrow) or down (arrow) to navigate between titles. You also might be able to just use numbers, like pushing 1 or 2.

Going on how important it was for you to save the 5.1, Maybe try VirtualDubMpeg. You can save the scenes you want and those you dont; then 'append' together afterwards. Then drop into VirtualDubMod, extract audio to retain 5.1. TDA will encode at best to 2ch AC3 i believe. The above 2 programs are freeware also. Once done then just remux & reauthor and burn off.

You could just be a good parent and not let your kids watch that illegally pirated R-rated film.

But no, you want to waste hours of your life in the pursuit of a solution you can never really get properly.

And in the end, your kids will be fucked up beyond belief. Go on, people have been ******* up their kids for generations.

The cheapest/fastest/best solution is to instruct your kids to shut their eyes and cover their ears during said scenes

But seriously, yeah you can cut the scene out, but if you want to retain all menus and extras as well, I think you'll have a battle on your hands. Off the top, you could probably keep all the extras if you re-author using TMPGEnc DVD Author, but you'd probably have to make your own menu for it.
    If in doubt, Google it.

When I was little, my mom put here hands in front of my eyes, and/or told me to cover my ears. She probably would have used the MUTE button, had one existed back then.

I remember a comment left by somebody in a thread like this long ago. It was amusing, so I'd like to repeat (paraphrase): "Can you tell me how to do this too! I want to remove everything but the fighting and sex scenes" :P

    Covering your eyes doesn't work!!!

I remember seeing Jaws in the theater when I was 5 and I knew something bad was going to happen when Hooper when in the water. So I covered my eyes and when it sounded like nothing was happening, the head came out of the hole in the boat!!!! Scarred for Life!!! :P

There's something wrong with a society when it's more accepted to show 2 people punching their faces out, but not showing 2 people in love. Unless you're showing them Basic Instinct, then that's just wrong...kinky, but wrong :P

its kind of interesting that people think movies have that much of an effect on children.. its like trying to get pee out of a swimming pool, you can try as hard as you want, but its just not gonna happen.. if your kids becomes a sex maniac from watching a movie with nudity, or a serial killer from watching a violent movie then i seriously doubt it was the movie that caused that to happen to him/her.. there had to be something going on in their life that caused it, probably caused by bad parenting..

  30. Interesting that people always want to censor sex but never violence. You can kill hundreds of people in a film and no one complains, but let two people make love and the world is up in arms.
    Man people are stupid.
