  1. Hey Everyone,

Ok guys/gals I need your help now as I am once again a newbie.

I finally got a Toshiba DVD-ROM Drvie Model # SD-1712 for my PC which supports DVD-RAM Reading as well as ReadDVD for Windows which was nessecary to get Windows ME to read the UDF Format that my Set-Top Box writes n.

    Anyway here's the problem:

The Disc plays fine on my Set-Top Panasonic DMR-HS2 DVD Writer, and it reads both "Cells" in POwerDVD so I can watch it, but then I hit a snag. I want to rip the DVD-RAM to the Hard Drive, do some fancy editing and eventually burn to a DVD-R. When I go to read the DVD-RAM the Disc opens tellsme that 1.99GB has been used and shows a Folder labeled "DVD_RTAV" without quotes, I double-clcik the folder and atempt to open it and recive the following erro message witha gaint Win 9X red "X" --

    "F:\DVD_RTAV is not accessible
    access is denied"

That's EXACTLY what appears sans quotes, the Drive and OS are Detecting the Disc, it KNOWS there's a DVD_RTAV folder there but it won't let me open it, any help is appricated, I've tried DVD Decrypter but it thinks I NEED a VIDEO_TS File and the ISO Mode won't l;et me rip the file without spilliting it itno an .I00 and .I01 file, and I can't edit ISO's either so I'm pretty much stuck.

If anyone knwos how to access the DVD I burned so I can ript it to my HDD and edit it on the PC, I'd appricate it, I don't care about re-encoding even with minor (Keyword MINOR) quality loss, I just want to rip the Disc to the HDD and do some editing, does anybody know why I can't access my DVD_RTAV Folder and how to remedy the problem?

    As always any help is apprciated;

    Regards,
One confused Cyrax9 who had just thought his days of being a newbie wer almost over until an hour ago.

  2. HHmm..I dunno.

I have the same kinda setup as you Panny DMRE30 and Toshiba DVD ROM/RAM drive, Windows XP though, but i can open the folder ok, inside you find a .VRO file which you can open/edit using normall DVD authoring tools.

Sounds like a prob with ME perhaps...........maybe you could try installing XP ??

  3. I've got the DMR-E80H and a Samsung DVD-Multi DVD-ROM, and I've never had that happen either. This may be a long shot, but do you have protection activated on that DVD-RAM disc (set by your standalone recorder)? I can't imagine why that would cause your problem, but it came to mind.

I had protection activated, I tried to disable it and it didn't change anything so my next step is to copy the "original" DVD-RAM File I made onto another DVD (In case I screwed up this one like I apparently have) onto the current Disc after a reformat on the HS2, take said disc and attempt to open it again.

This has happened with two discs, someof whichalready have the program write-protected, unfortunatly I can't useXP as I don't have the money for it, but I'm ussing a panny HS2 and TOshiba DVD-ROM, it reads the disc it KNOWS it's there but as soon as I try to open that folder the Disc tells me it's inaccessable.

I have no clue why it does this maybe I have to change a setting on the HS2 when I record it but it's very odd, for some reason I cant access the DVD_RTAV Folde and there's no DVD Ripping proigram that'll let e just rip it to my HDD either, I'm going to try it again though without copy protection as you've suggested if it still doesn't work I'm open to any moe suggestions peoplcan think up, I ca only think of oneother thing and that's that ME didn't recognize the CDFS without a third party program, ReadDVD but if it's something like a firmware problem I might look into that nerxt, it's just odd, PowerDVD Plays it ReadDVD Recognizes the Disc but it won't let me modify it.

  5. I tried it again with the Disc reformated no protection activated and still no go, I'm going to print a screen and UL it with the exact error message I get in hopes it may help someone who may have had a similar problem.

Might be a simple question but -----Isn't there a file/folder size restriction with Windows 98?? If the folder is larger that your OS can handle you could get that error.

Yes the restriction is 4GB after which the 9x kernal stops reading the data, funny thing is, my Drive says it's only .99GB now or bassically 1GB after I removed four other programs from the Disc, I wnder if I can "Trick" the OS into opening it or if there's a Decrypter that'd open this Disc as well.

PowerDVD Will read it as "Cell 1" with no problems but try and open the folder on the DIsc and the PC thinks I'm a lunatic and sticks that error message in my face. Also before I nstalled ReadDVD for WIndows by Software Architects, the drive would read the Disc but wouldn't show the flde, it saidit was in the CDFS File system instead of FAT 32, if there's a way I can partition part of my druive inot the "CDFS" file system and copy it to my FAT32 WIndows OS I'd like to know or if I can just trick the Disc into opening the folder I'd be happy I have editing tools I just ned to access that folder, I don't know why it's givingme that erro message, I reformated the Disc and re-recorded the program off of the DVD-RAM I've had it stored on since february and still no luck, any DVD Rippers that will rip a DVD_RTAV folder or freeware that'll "Trick" ME into opening the file? It's also in a UDF format instead of a FAT Format whichis why I needed ReadDVD to access it, but I'm almost out of ideas regarding how to crac open my Disc, which as far as I can tel, should be easy to acess cnsderingit'staken forma TV Recording of a half hour show and not a commercial DVD, I mean I want to do some basic editing and I an't even get into the Disc and copy it nto my HDD, I wonder what I'm doingwrong.

As always anymroe helpis aprciated I'm trying everything I can think of, I can't get ti to realize it's not even a full GB worth of Data n the Disc though in DVD Decrypter so I'm a bit confused, as always any help is apricated, I'm going to keep tring to get this to wpork, it's drivingme nuts, and I've laready made sure it's not the Disc, very odd for sure.

  8. I hate to Bump this topic back up everyone, but I really need some help. I just got Software Architect's GreatVideo! And, honestly, it's not doing what it claims it will do for WIndows 98SE/Me/.2000/XP I'm still getting the error message I posted before in WIndows ME, and I can't open the DVD_RTAV folder, it says that it's empty, yet I can't read it, and the litle gauge on the side that says how much space is used shows about 1GB worth of stuff, thus further making this confusing.

I want to access this DVD_RTAV Folder and copy it to my PC's HDD, but the PC keeps giving me the same error message, I don't know what to do now, is their a way I can try adn copy the DVD_RTAV Folder onto my HDD witha DVD Decrypting utility and open my DVD-RAM? I don't understadn why it's not opening, I burned it off of my DMR-HS2 and it doesn't want tor ead it, it's not the Disc, I tried others and now I'm just confused, please, any help is appreciated.

Windows does not natively support reading of RTAV files. You can try extracting the files from the disc with isobuster. Does this happen with all of your RTAV discs or just this one? Is the disc finalized?

  11. I've got a setup similar to yours (DMR-HS2, Toshiba DVD-ROM, Win98SE) so I thought I'd chime in. It might possibly be the 4GB limitation. Did you try reformatting a DVD-RAM in the HS2, then record something very short, then try to import to your hard drive? This way you can be sure that the VRO file is under 4GB.
I've had situations where I'd recorded multiple programs on DVD-RAM, almost filling it up. I wasn't able to import anything to the hard drive because the VRO file was over 4GB, even though the individual programs were well under.
Also, I think the best way to import from DVD-RAM to your computer is by using TMPGEnc DVD Author. I've done this many, many times without problem, as long as I kept the VRO file under 4GB, and I also turned off the Hybrid resolution (or whatever it's called) on the HS2.
That's my opinion, and if you don't like it, I'll change it.
