anyone have this problem? I have two different NEC drives(2500 & 3530) and can't read dvd-R made on an HL-DT-ST brand drive (GWA-4161B). A Philips/BenQ drive (with same specs as the NEC 3530) could read them, so it's not the dvds themselves, and it doesn't matter what burnspeed and brand dvd-R. However, I burned a dvd+RW in the HL-DT-ST and for whatever reason, that was readable on the NEC. The HL- isn't listed on this website but apparenty it exists, and used in new HP desktop computers. Does this kind of thing happen often? Does NEC have a fix?

    HL-DT-ST is an LG drive.
I have an LG4040B and a BenQ 1620Pro and don't have the problems you describe.
Do a google search on HL-DT-ST and you'll see problems others have had with this drive in Dell computers. I also have a Dell but my LG did NOT come with my computer.

You've burned dvd-R in the LG and could read them in an NEC? As I wrote, they will work in the BenQ but not in 2 NEC drives, which makes me think NEC has some weird issue with LG dvd-R burns. The NEC drives stop reading in the same spot on the dvds.

That is not what your original post said:

Just for future reference....edits you make show up as in the picture above.

All I did was simplify the post; I DID originally write that the BenQ (with same specs as NEC) would play the LG dvds, which implied to me the dvds were okay and it was a drive issue.
In another thread I mention a problem with BenQ1640 not reading -RW burned in dvd recorder. Maybe that's what you're thinking of.
So were you able to play LG dvds in a NEC drive? What are your dvd drive recommendations? I'm souring on NEC.
