  1. Maybe my math is a little rusty, but isn't 100% supposed to imply finished? I ask this because for some reason, whenever I try to encode a file from the .mkv format, it hits 100% and just keeps on going. Right now, as the title says, my little energizer bunny is at 2,435% and rising. While obviously this is not right, I was wondering from a coding standpoint, what exactly is going on. Sure is weird.

Oh wait, maybe if I drink from that little bottle over there that says "Drink Me." I should never have followed that white rabbit.

Have you had any other success with mkv inputs? I wasn't aware ffmpegX was even capable of it.

For what it's worth, I sometimes get +100% progress on some conversions. As I recall it's usually converting realvideo stuff when I get this. It never goes eyond about 175% though....

PS Merry Christmas everyone, especially you Major! Thanks for all your hard work this year

  3. Thank you and good holidays to everyone.

  4. Well, here's the thing. I extracted the MP4 (and the unidentifiable? audio file) from the .mkv file, and tried recoding that (the last one was really blocky, perhaps due to low sample rate.) One would think that this would result in normal behaviour, but no. I am now over 1900% in and counting. All very weird.

    oh, and bah humbug :/

  5. When the progress information goes over 100%, this simply means that the program failed to determine the correct movie duration. This has no effect whatsoever on the encoding.

  6. yeah, I figured that. The fact that it happened no matter if the video stream was in the .mkv container or in straight mpeg4 implied to me that there was something wrong with the video stream itself, perhaps in the header, that made the calculation of play time calculate incorrectly. Still is weird though.
Also, when this happens (and it has happened several times) it seems that the encode takes abnormally long. At least it finishes in the end.
