    Hi,

I just installed DVD Slideshow GUI (0.86) and imported some jpegs with 'Subs' set to 'User comments'.
The comment does not get imported as a subtitle though.
Camera Make for example does work.

I've read that DSG uses jhead to get this kind of info, so I ran it on one of the pictures. This is the output:
    File name : DSC02192.jpg
    File size : 2479785 bytes
    File date : 2008:06:30 21:44:30
    Camera make : SONY
    Camera model : DSC-H2
    Date/Time : 2008:05:10 15:46:02
    Resolution : 2816 x 2112
    Flash used : No (auto)
    Focal length : 16.0mm
    Exposure time: 0.0010 s (1/1000)
    Aperture : f/4.0
    ISO equiv. : 80
    Whitebalance : Auto
    Metering Mode: matrix
    Exposure : program (auto)
Comment : bootje op de nijl

Funny thing is that the Jheadinfo.txt file under the DSG directory contains this:
    File size : 5082352 bytes
    File date : 2008:06:28 19:57:48
    Camera make : SONY
    Camera model : DSC-H2
    Date/Time : 2008:05:11 06:10:23
    Resolution : 2816 x 2112
    Flash used : No (auto)
    Focal length : 9.3mm
    Exposure time: 0.0016 s (1/640)
    Aperture : f/4.0
    ISO equiv. : 80
    Whitebalance : Auto
    Metering Mode: matrix
    Exposure : program (auto)

    It's missing the comments.

if it helps: I'm running Vista.

So jhead gets the comments correct, but DSG doesn't see it.

    Does anybody have any ideas?

    I found it!

Seems I have to run DSG as admin to be able to create the Jheadinfo.txt which 1 did for the first time (after install).

    Greetings

  3. I'm running DVD slideshow GUI as admin and have multiple images with user comments in the EXIF, however I am still not able to see the comments in the subtitles. Some images have GPS information in EXIF...for those images GPSLatitude and and GPSLatitudeRef are used as the comments instead of the user comments.
Is there an issue, or do I have something configured incorrectly? I can see all the correct information in the Jheadinfo.txt, so I'm not sure what is going on.
    Thanks!

  4. If you select Presets/Import settings/Subs->'All Jpeg' before importing the images, you'll be able to see all exif data DSG supports through Jhead. If nothing shows up at all and you're sure your images got exif data then it's properly a Vista problem? - which I can't help you with - haven't got Vista.

GPSLatitude and and GPSLatitudeRef is not supported in DSG.

If some Exif data comes out in as wrong data - run your images through jhead to check if the data is in the right slot.

  5. When I select All Jpeg, I can see the comment in there (as well as all the other info that is included in All Jpeg.)
Running the images through jhead, all of the correct data comes out where it should....even when the Jheadinfo.txt file is created via DSG, all of the data comes out with the right EXIF tag. It just seems like DSG is reading the jheadinfo.txt file incorrectly and pulling the wrong line in for the Comment tag.
    thanks.
    fyi...I'm running XP.

  6. So what in what position does the comment show up in dsg?
    (I can't reproduce it here...)

  8. Thanks, could you pm me a photo with all that data for testing?

  9. No problem. It's on its way.

Thanks for looking into this for me.

  10. Thanks. I've tried to fix that bug and added a few more EXIF options in this patch. Run it from the main folder of an installed DSG.

    DVDsGUI_086D_Exif_Patch.exe

BTW. I added a limit of 100 characters for subtitles, because else they'll come out wrong(like when using 'All Jpeg'). It's due to a save string limitation in Avisynth.

  11. I downloaded DVDsGUI_086D_Exif_Patch.exe and every time I run it, I get the following "DVD slideshow GUI is not installed properly - please reinstall!"

I downloaded DVDsGUI086C.exe and installed it, but I'm still getting the above message when I run DVDsGUI_086D_Exif_Patch.exe.

    Any thoughts?
    Thanks.

  12. It's the GUI only. Try to place it in the main folder of DSG and double click it there. (It might error out like that by running it from the download window - the path will be wrong and it can't find the needed files.)

  13. Oh, my bad...I apologize. It's right there in your previous post: "Run it from the main folder of an installed DSG."

Ah, it's working. It's pulling the JPEG Comment (as opposed to the EXIF User Comment.) It's working fine now. Thanks.

fyi...if your interested, jhead v2.82 pulls some IPTC data from the picture too.

Anyway thanks for your help. I really appreciate it.

  14. Great.

I don't really use EXIF/IPTC data myself at all. Is IPTC data something people would use as subtitles(what would you prefer to be added)?

  15. Most of the pictures that I will be working with have a comment stored in the IPTC Caption-Abstract tag. As long as I can get a text string out of the picture (now I can with you latest fix) then I don't really have a big need for all the IPTC data. (I can create a script to copy the caption to whatever tag I'd like...that's no problem at all.)

The main reason I originally used the IPTC Caption-Abstract tag was because it's the first tag that I tried and could get to display a caption/comment about a picture when it was uploaded to Picasa Web Albums.

Long story short...I can get DSG to do what I want now (in this regard) so no further action is needed. However, if you feel the need to support more data and have the time, then so be it.

I do really appreciate the time you spent to track down my issue and correct it. Thank you very much.
