At the moment I am using Winavi to convert my *avi files to DVD, I then use ConvertX to Author the DVD. Whilst I'm more than happy with ConvertX, I would like to use another file converter other than Winavi, as I find it slow & cpu intensive. Can anyone reccomend another easy to use file converter?

Use a real encoder, such as MainConcept.

    HUH!!!!!
Why would you convert avi's first with winavi, then convert them again & author with ConvertXtoDVD ??

ConvertXtoDVD will convert to dvd and author them all in one shot!!

very good answers no great answers but answer this I've been using mpeg encoder for years now i love it only thing i don't like is the output size i like to use mpeg2 720 x 480, 16:9 settings i love clarity after that i use tmeg encoder to finish off
i also bump into vso converter convert to dvd whatever, great program only thing i don't like about the program is tv size again i like for the majority of my movies I CONVERT to be 16:9 and this program won't listen so times also found out not all dvd players will show the file how it atually is meaning did conversions with this program played it on one dvd player it showed full screen played on my other dvd player and showed 16:9 black bars on top and bottom hope thats correct
oh this doesn't happen with mpeg enocoder 16:9 playes 16:9 on both converters

    SO THIS IS MY QUESTION
is there an all in one converter out their that does the same thing as convertxtodvd but will follow directions and give the speed, quality, and manageable output size or basically better than conertxtodvd and does the same thing

SORRY FOR SO LONG THIS HAS BEEN ON MY MIND FOR SOME TIME
    THANK YOU

All 3 answers, especially Noahtuck's, were right on the money. Why indeed do a double conversion when ConvertX can do the whole job the first time. What you're doing is called threadjacking.

OK, I use the convertX now to author dvds.

I use winavi to convert between formats as it will do FLV to, avi wma etc, but it is a bit slow!

So what I am looking for is a converter that converts between formats & will also do FLV conversion. I don't need this to author dvds, just do format conversion!

From what to what? You won't find one converter that converts any format to any other format with any degree of quality. You'll need an arsenal of tools to cover all/most bases. Closest thing to a GP converter is SUPER, but I've found it leaves a lot to be desired on the quality side.
