Okay, I know this is probably a stupid question, but I swear I've looked all over this forum (and on other sites as well) but I can't seem to find this info. How do you copy blu-ray movies? I know to use DVDFab HD decrypter to get the info to my hard drive, but then what do I use to get the files on a blank blu-ray dvd? I have a sony BWU-100A blu-ray burner, and I'd like to be able to watch the copied blu-ray movies on my PS3.

I'm use to using dvddecrypter & Roxio Easy DVD copy or DVD Shrink for my single layer and dual layer DVDs.

Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated. And if this indeed is the stupidest question ever, please excuse my ignorance.

    Thanks,

    Joey

That's the same as DVDFab Decrypter,it only rips to HD.
OP:AFAIK there's no authoring software for Blu-Ray yet,not to mention that it has to be written in UDF 2.6,with DRM embedded and nobody knows if it will work in a standalone player.
Most likely it will only work on your PC and you will have to output via videocard.
With all of the cost and time involved you are better off buying another copy of the movie.
EDIT:you may need other software & hardware to make Blu-Ray work: http://sony.storagesupport.com/BDupgrade/

So I signed up on this forum just to answer your question. Well..maybe to add to it. I just checked out Ashampoo's Burning Studio..it has an option to burn BluRay... I haven't used it but I have seen that option. Don't know if that will help you out or not..but something to look in to.

Here's what you need to burn BluRay movies:

    1. Video (hopefully HD quality & rez) encoded as BD-compliant MPEG2, VC1, or AVC stream(s).
    2. Audio (hopefully HD quality) encoded as BD-complaint PCM, AC3, DTS, ...etc... stream(s).
    3. (Optional) BD-compliant subtitle stream(s)'
    4. (Optional) BD-compliant menu pictures or video (if so, see #1) stream(s).
    5. BluRay Authoring application to make above elements into BDMV-compliant files+folders.
    6. BluRay Burning application to burn to BD-R or BD-RW
    7. BluRay Burner drive
    8. BD-R or BD-RW media

Similar to HD-DVD, except replace "BD" stuff with "HD-DVD" stuff; that and the additional possibility to sometimes use DVD recordables as media for shorter content.

Some of these pieces of the puzzle are available, but none are all there at a reasonable price yet.

The PS3 can use m2ts files straight away if they are burned as data to DVD or BD.

If you have a RE disc then just burn the m2ts file and load it into the PS3 - go to media on the XMB and chose the disk.

    It will play.

Yeah, but that's non-standard, kinda like a DivX file on a DVD disc--it works on some players (like PS3 in this case), but not most. I was talking standards-compliant.

The question related to the PS3, as did my answer.

That said, it would be interesting to see if BD content could be authored to DVD.

While HD-DVD has a semi-official designation allowing mastering to DVD media, BD has no official designation, so I honestly don't think it'll be as supported as you think it might. Remember, this is Sony.

I believe the PS3 kinda HAS to support a few more options than most just because of its game capabilities.

If you're ONLY going to EVER watch via the PS3, you might be OK, but that's quite limiting. What about your friends and relatives? Can't loan the PS3 out every time you loan out a disc...

Since the PS3 is the most prevalent BD player, that problem should only apply to a minority.

I don't think anyone will really know the answer until we get the right software to mess around with.
