Hello Major, I have the same problem: I get this AppleScript error as soon as I press "encode":

    Can't get text item 2 of "/Users/pikula/Movies/filmy/gargoyles2004/Gargoyl.avi". (-1728)

The path is pure-ascii. I tried many ways of entering the file name to 'input location': drag&drop the file to text box, drag&drop to "from" window, write the path by hand, paste the text to the text box. Checked the value with Script Debugger byte by byte (it's correct). Content of the rest of the dialogs seemingly does not matter - the error shows every time.

Environment: english language, intel mac, latest 10.4.8 OS, fresh install of the app and all binaries. Plenty of space on disk and 2G ram.

The "encode.scpt" is saved run-only. Upon pressing the "encode" button, ktrace shows execution of a shell, which in turns runs "machine" (that displays "i486" in my case). Nothing else interresting there. I did not try to use a gdb.

I can give you a shell account on my machine so you can see yourself or you can send me the open version of encode.scpt, confidentiality assured. Just contact me at milan..pikula at ipsec..info, change two dots to one. Thanks.

I do have two languages there (English and Slovak) but English is the first one (topmost in the System Preferences -> International -> Languages). Order for sorted lists is set to English, word break Standard.

In Formats tab I have Slovakia (Slovak), which gives me the right date, time, and monetary formats.

Well, I circumvented the error until yesterday, but it occured again. Somebody wrote, that it works again under a newly created user. I tested it and well..it works I don't know, what changes are necessary to put my account to default-settings.
Currently i'm using the 2nd user to convert videos. A little bit strange, but with fast-user-switching enabled, it'll do the trick until a bugfix is out (or a tutorial howto fix it).

    sincerely

  11. Quit ffmpegX, open the application package, find the English.lproj folder in Contents/Resources, duplicate it, and name the copy Slovak.lproj.
