Hello all. I'm new here. First of all I'd like to congratulate the team on making the clear leader in video-conversion technology for Mac OS X. Good work guys.
I have used ffmpegX in the past, and recently updated to the newest version with new binaries etc.. I try installing the binaries, and I get this error message:
Sorry if this has already been answered before.
Any help would be appreciated, and keep up the good work!
Cheers,
Franklint

Hello major,
Thanks for the quick reply! Sorry, I had other stuff to do and forgot to check this thread.
My G4 has no quotes or special characters or punctuation in its password. I tried installing the binaries on my MacBook (the files were transferred through a Hard Drive), which also contains no punctuation, and same problem. The whole installing system seems to be running correctly, as an incorrect password still brings up a normal "wrong password, here are the most likely problems" message. This seemed promising, so I got it right, and the undecodable error message came up. The only thing I haven't tried is manually changing the password, perhaps so it has no numbers in it or something. Thanks for your help. I'll get back to you.
Cheers,
Franklint

I'm running into a similar situation. First, this comment on the download page of the ffmpegx site is not correct:
"If you already installed ffmpegX before, with this new version you are not required to reinstall a new version of the binaries. Just replace the application."
I simply copied over the application as instructed, overwriting the last version I had installed (I don't recall now which version I had previously), and was prompted with: "The components in red are either missing or outdated and must be installed now".
I was able to download the mencoder and mplayer binaries from the link provided:
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/mplayerosx/ffmpegXbinaries20060307.zip
But I cannot get the mpeg2enc file to download from the provided link:
http://mjpeg.sourceforge.net/MacOS/mpeg2enc.intel
The download keeps failing!
Furthermore, when I try to reinstall the old binaries (which I should be able to do, as the site claims I shouldn't need to reinstall the binaries if I've run ffmpegx before), I get the exact error message Franklint is getting.
Any help would be appreciated!

However, when i put the ffmpegX program in the applications folder, and then tried to perform the binary installs it worked like a charm. Best of luck.
