  1. This video (warning: porn) played fine x years ago. Today it only plays in MPC from real alternative. How can I convert it?

  2. assuming the file is not buggy/encrytped/... and without having tested it:
    a. install the directshow filter from real alternative
    b. use DirectShowSource in either Avisynth or Vapoursynth for decoding
    c. use a tool which supports using DirectShowSource and convert with it

    alternatively use mencoder:
    Code:
    mencoder "PATH TO hc32_-_Winner_Takes_All.rm" -vid 1 -aid 2 -ni -o "g:\Output\test_v1_a2_ni.mp4" -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:vbitrate=1200 -oac mp3lame -lameopts br=128
works fine here (audio seems to be mono; use aid 2 and vid 1)

  3. Thanks!

Is there a working mediainfo for this file?

not really sure what you are looking for, but I don't think MediaInfo really knows how to analyse RealVideo, but
    Code:
    mplayer -identify "path to clip"
    and
    Code:
    ffmpeg -i "path to clip"
give basic infos about the audio&video streams of such files, i.e.:
    Code:

  5. What's the information about? There aren't 3 video and 2 audio streams.
    Quote Quote
  6. ffmpeg finds an plays those streams from the looks of it it's a multi-bit-rate RealMedia file like you would use for streaming which would allow the realvideo streaming server to chose one of the streams depending on the bandwidth available.

  7. So does the file contain all streams from this? Or not?

  8. Looks like it, to me. Since ffmpeg can find and play those streams. I'm no expert in the real media container to analyse the content by hand, but such files are not uncommon.

  9. How to view it then? Looks like this info is rubbish.

  10. Assuming you have no RealMedia streaming server or a RealMedia player, your could use mplayer (that is what I did here).
    see: https://linux.die.net/man/1/mplayer for mplayer documentation.
But assuming you just want to convert the content usually only the streams with the highest bit rate are interessting, so I would simply use those.

Looks like this info is rubbish.
Nothing I can do about that.
I leave this thread now and wish you luck with your endeavour.
I think the necessary info (at least hints) on how you could convert such files into different formats was provided.

  11. rm is complicated and very poorly supported in tools. Who will ever put multiple video streams with same content into a downloadable file?!
    Quote Quote
  12. Do you know how mpc chooses the right stream? It doesn't offer any way to choose.

How can I find out mplayer stream ids with bitrate?

  13. This video is something I would not usually work with.
I was curious to see if I could convert it.
First Selur's mencoder code in post#3 works to convert this .rm.
Pot Player Video Record mode will also convert this .rm.
Real Media Player convert will also convert this .rm.

Using Selur's mencoder code you can use -aid 2 & -aid 3 to get two .mp4s.
If you check them with mediainfo they look identical.

    Stream #0:4: Audio
    Stream #0:5: Audio
This comes from the mplayer code posted by Selur:
[real] Audio stream found, -aid 2
    Stream description: Audio Stream
    Stream mimetype: audio/x-pn-multirate-realaudio
    ID_AUDIO_ID=3
[real] Audio stream found, -aid 3

    Both audios are low quality.
Not much dialog anyway. Mostly screaming.

    @ Selur,
Would Hybrid convert this .rm ?

I suppose it is the way the problematic file was muxed.
That "uncommon" RealMedia multiplexing was supported by the old versions of ffmpeg and LAV Filters,
but one day a regression in their source-code happened and so those uncommon .RM files became "unsupported".
Some years ago, there was a similar regression in ffmpeg, which made MPEG-2 streams in MP4 files muxed by MP4Box "unplayable" by LAV Filters and ffplay.

  17. Would Hybrid convert this .rm ?
Older versions might, if 'No XSynth' and mplayer/mencoder are used as decoder, current versions will not.
(newer dev versions removed mplayer&mencoder; this killed support for some exotic formats, but mplayer hasn't been updated/maintained for 4+ years)
This is a rm file not meant for download distribution, but to be fed to a streaming server.
Normal rm files can be handled by nearly anything with libav support.
=> not worth the time and effort to look into writing a workaround for such files

    How?
Select the Pot Player pulldown in the upper left corner.
    Select option as in picture.
Make the settings for the file you want to convert to.
You have to let PotPlayer play the video as it does the conversion.

I'm using Windows 7 32-bit & this is the version of PotPlayer I use:

  20. I have a problem with this file. I converted it using command
    Code:
    "MPlayer-x86_64-r38677+g1bce40cb73\mencoder.exe" "%~1" -vid 1 -aid 3 -ni -oac pcm -ovc raw -vf format=i420 -o "%~2"
Video stream is 29 hours long. How to fix it?

Apparently enough to do the conversion by more than one method.

I believe the problem is the raw conversion .
I have not tested this yet.

  22. File probably has a bug/error,..
mencoder should output some error message.
Using "-ni -mc 0 -noskip" should fix the length, but if there is a error in headers&co it will cause async output.

Can it do other things too? Besides converting.

So why does the converter fail? Can someone fix it please? I tried fixing the timestamps with ffmpeg, but it didn’t work.
