    Hi everyone,

I have a DV file that I want to convert to either MOV or AVI for editing because most editing programs don’t support DV files directly. My main goal is to keep the highest quality possible—essentially a lossless conversion.

Additionally, I’d like to preserve the interlacing in the footage, so de-interlacing isn’t necessary for this process.

Does anyone know the best way to achieve this? Any recommended software or settings?

    Thanks

    Raw DV vs. Type 2
Converting raw DV format quicktime or MPEG format

I hope there is something useful inside... search more for "raw DV".

I guess ffmpeg could be used to remultiplex it into an AVI container.

    Code:
    ffmpeg -i "your_source" -map 0 -c copy "out_.mov"

O.k. i found example of raw DV. Avidemux will not help. In mkvtoolnix only video is recognized. But VLC opens it properly, so there is chance to capture it in VLC lossless. Hybrid can do it, passthrough video and audio. Container avi or mov.

Vdub2 does just that, Input DV, output lossless AVI, compressed or uncompressed, your choice.

Tested it and it opens full length 30 sec of video. But only first frame still. I mean in Vdub2. It is not normal dv, it is raw dv. Sorry if i did something wrong, but i doubt. Here is mediainfo of dv raw file. I hope OP is asking for help with this sort of *.dv files.

What's the rest of the information for your DV file? I used Vdub2 to strip DV codec numerous times without a problem, Unless it was dumb luck, All the DV files I've stripped were type 2.

There is no rest I found that raw file on sourceforge. So you can test it as well. I am as well curious how vdub2 in proper hands handles it. FFMPEG i think will work o.k. .

So that's not a proper DV file then, why would you expect vdub2 to handle it correctly?

It is proper mac raw dv file. Players can plays it properly what i tested. VLC and Potplayer. Hybrid and i bet ffmpeg then can handle it properly. Avidemux can't find demuxer vdub2 opens just first frame, and mkvtoolnix fails.
So it is proper file just as mentioned in link, it is proper dv video just without wrapper.

I don't use MAC so I wouldn't know what raw DV looks like, The DV I'm talking about and I assume the OP is talking about is the one recorded on DV and DVCAM tapes transferred to PC via WinDV or similar program without any major alteration.
