Hi,
I am using Subtitle Edit 4.0.8 and I can't locate this settings:
1. I would like to change Font size?
2. How to edit spacing between the lines?
3. How to change Font color?
4. How to add black or transparent background on subtitle?

Your srt screenshot shows weird text makeup with double linebreaks. You have to remove these in the text-box with your keyboard.
Furthermore, when you save as - or export to - other formats, font size, -color, background, spacing and more, can be edited/set as per what features are supported by your target format. Subtitle formats are text- or picture based. Srt is the most simple of text-based subs. It's a "quick & dirty" format with just timestamps and text.
To stay with text based subtitles - for example - go File --> Save as --> Advanced Sub Station Alpha (ASS). This format has lots of features that can be set in the ASS config window (Big Red A in the menu bar).
A much used and supported image based subtitle format is PGS. Go File --> Export --> Blu-ray sup. Here, the export windows shows what features can be set.
Of course it's important to know what subtitle formats are supported by your playback chain. -
Here's the result after few hours of testing:
3. Font color won't work no matter what.
4. I gave up on this one definitely.
Advanced Sub Station Alpha (ASS) works (I don't know if I changed font formatting somehow):

Blu-ray sup won't work at all, TV doesn't read it:

I don't know to fix my main problem:
1. Font size
2. Spacing between the lines (everything looks normal on PC, but when I move usb flash to TV there is big spacing) -
The SRT format doesn't support any of those settings. Some SRT renderers let you specify some of them via their own options, not as part of the SRT file. Some SRT renders support some as HTML flags. But you can't count on them, especially outside of computer players. For example, the media player in your HDTV will probably ignore them, or worse, display the HTML tags as subtitles.

This post has a sample SRT file with some of the extensions supported by some players:

Use a different subtitle format if you need those parameters. But again, those other formats aren't generally supported outside Windows.Last edited by jagabo; 5th Dec 2024 at 13:37.

Possibly you just did no more than "save as ASS". Your screenshots still shows a lot of space between two lines.
When you go into the ASS settings (big red A), it will tell you which default subtitle is used. You can add and edit fonts and settings per font to your likings. The properties config window is pretty self-explaining.
