Recommended settings for youtube upload, vhs pal source.

Hello,
What x264 encoder settings do you guys recommend for the best balanced quality when I want sharing on youtube, i'm talking here about settings like gop, b-frame, resolution, tune/present/mode crf/resize method? Currently I use pioneer dvr 560 (xp+ mode) to capture pal source, after cutting I use "Hybrid" (QTGMC) crf 15, crop - 8 -8 left right, target resolution 960x720, output par square pixel 1:1.

If you make it 1920x1440 (the 1440 is the important part) YT will encode your video in VP9, better than AVC/H264.

If it's fairly short, I'd export as AVI lossless and give that to YT. No point in encoding it H264 then having YT re-encode it. I've been known to upload ~4GB AVIs to YT.

Resolution: 640x480 or 720x576 (SD) or 1280x720 (720p)
Frame Rate: 25 fps
Codec: H.264 (MP4 container)
Bitrate: 2,500 - 8,000 kbps
Audio: Stereo, 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz (AAC/MP3)
Consider basic color correction and deinterlacing
Provide clear title, description, and tags

Samson Stages, those are VERY basic parameters for the un-educated. "Consider basic color correction and deinterlacing": seriously?

Those resolutions and bitrates should be considered as the minimum; YT will take much more, as I assume you have seen in the posts above, that will improve quality.
