Help me download subtitle only please

i'm using the stream detector with mozila to download videos (copy stream URL as yt-dlp)
i used to download subtitles only too just fine but recently when downloading subtitles only, the download will stop at 11%
i have tried over and over but getting the same results, the download won't resume but starts from beginning and stops again
i also have tried using copy stream URL as streamlink command with no luck

here are the two lines i have tried:
yt-dlp --write-subs --sub-langs en --skip-download "URL"
yt-dlp "URL" --skip-download --write-subs

i want to download the subs for this mini show link down below
i already downloaded the three episodes but i need its subs so i can merge it with mkvtool
would you please try downloading an english subtitle from an episode of this show and see if it works with you

download the master m3u8 file, open it up with a text editor and look for the m3u8 link for the subtitles

download the chosen subtitle file with yt-dlp

yt-dlp "https://content-ausw1.uplynk.com/multiple/9a497a6ee69441c69371499105effbcc,fd5a69f723604b8cbac4f87141dd4af9,8cf14e3d244245f4addd5bbed48a343d/sub2.m3u8?pbs=76e0b202fa2b4bda9472456a21ba1717&mbtracks=1"

that will download a mp4 file with the subtitles in it.

you can convert that mp4 file to srt with ffmpeg

ffmpeg -i "sub.mp4" -map 0:s:0 sub.srt

the output sub.srt file had extra lines with "WEBVTT" in it so i removed them with this command

findstr /v /i "WEBVTT" sub.srt > sub_fixed.srt

An even easy way is to use N_m3u8dl-re and it will download the proper subtitle without any need for modification (plus it will download the video and audio at the same time - if you want)

If you inspect that video via Dev Tools, you will notice seperate VTT subtitle files incoming.

M3U8 file of English subtitles:

Request URL: https://content-aapm1.uplynk.com/multiple/9a497a6ee69441c69371499105effbcc,fd5a69f7236...10b&mbtracks=1

Insert that URL into that command:

./ffmpeg.exe -i "https://xxx.vtt.m3u8" output_subs.srt

Or, you can use IDM's browser add-on. It can easily catch the link of your VTT-formatted subtitle. Then, you can convert VTT file to SRT with Subtitle Edit.

Why to loose a lot of time , the simpliest way to have "wvtt" extractor are to use devellopment of this guy "nilaoda" from here.
You can choose format directly using simple comands included into precompiled binary:

--sub-only Select only subtitle tracks [default: False]
--sub-format <SRT|VTT> Subtitle output format [default: SRT]
--auto-subtitle-fix Automatically fix subtitles [default: True]

example of command line :
re --sub-only URL ; where url is mpd url with wvtt.

And also as you talk after this post , regarding download of audio and video same time, you can add mention , you can decrypt also a mpd if you have necessary keys

Well , i say yes, this is the riferiment.
Bu i encouinter some national providers around europe , where subtitles part are delegated outside of mpd , direct into raw. those can be download using any known method.
Also "re" as "mp4sp" can extract wwtt, and ttml direct into srt format.

This is great, this one fixed the same issue I had but I have trouble with downloading only english subtitles from the stream -ss name="en" or -ss name="English"
or -ss name="English":for all is not downloading only english sub, it is downloading every subs! Also how to change the output name it is always master_2023-02-13_11-06-10.en etc, can I change the output file name?


removing --subs-only and adding --select-subtitle name="English":for=all fixed the issue, as far as the output name it is --save-name works
