  1. i'm trying VirtualDub FilterMod. Trying to export an mp4 file, but getting
raw video codec not currently supported in container
i tried these old steps, but i don't see a VirtualDub "Color Depth" option on Video menu.

also found these old steps, but i already seem to have mp4 codec I THINK.

Maybe you're trying to save UN-compressed video to an MP4 file?
In fact, the MP4 container does not support uncompressed video.
I don't use VDFMod, so I'm only guessing...

  4. What kind of "mp4" ? What sorts of targets or how will it be played ?

In vdfm, for general use mp4 you would select video => compression => x264 8bit

  5. Some uncompressed variants work in mp4.
    Working: YV12, YV16, YV24, YUYV, V210
    Not working: rgb24, rgb32

  6. Depends on codec - i bet that mov container i.e. foundation for mp4 container had support for uncompressed RGB.
MP4 is highly limited container and personally trying to avoid mp4 as much as possible.
