  1. I've installed Lagarith codec from the official website. However, XMediaRecode can't see it. I don't know how to use command line programs. I just need to convert videos as fast as possible to a lossless/i-frame format to use as intermediates to edit on Sony Vegas 12 (build 770) 64-bit, since mjpeg is not working so well for me. What's the best way? Which file extension should I use to work better on Vegas?

  2. Avoid Lagarith please. If possible use UT Video instead.

EDIT this may be the source of the glitch problem you mention here.

I was using mjpeg and even the raw files... it didn't work, videos keep glitching. For real, I've never managed to use Lagarith, so thanks for the tip. I will try UT video if I can use it with my programs.

Virtualdub can't open my files... (their info from MediaInfo are on the thread which raffriff mentioned). Anyways, I've never managed to use VirtualDub or VirtualDubMod properly with any files. I am starting to suspect that something is wrong with my laptop, seriously. Even after formatting my HD I was never been able to make them work.

I've tried it. My Vegas couldn't read or import it. By the way, it makes files too large.

Virtualdub can only really open certain formats in AVI. Like Divx/Xvid, lossless formats, and MJPEG. We just don't know what your starting with.

And I've never had any problems with Lagarith.

Scroll down the vd page and install the input plug-in to suite your source.

When you then go to open your video in vd, you select that plug-in rather than the default source (avi etc.)

But then, if Vegas reads your files correctly, Vegas can also export to an intermediate format such as lagarith.

  8. Try Grass Valley HQX as an intermediate. There is a converter utlilty as well which may be able to accept your original files. You can download the codec and utility from the links on THIS PAGE of my 'slo-mo' guide..or from Grass Valley direct, if you prefer..

  9. Try turning off the null frame option in lagarith. That might cause problems with some readers/decoders.

But I suspect the real problem is reading your original h.264 MOV file. Frames are getting out of order while reading it and your Lagarith compression isn't the problem.

Vegas reads them perfectly well. What version do you have? Yes they are BIG, but everything can edit them. I thought "what am I doing" when I started to use them, but in reality, there really is nothing better, other than the huge files sizes.

personally i always use sony yuv when working exclusively with vegas. it will even do no re-compression rendering when possible going yuv -> yuv when editing a video piece by piece.
