  1. Hello All,

I am having a weird problem. I put mp4 videos on to a flash drive that is plugged into a video projector to play them. The file plays on the computer fine and then when it goes on the USB, it gets a not supported error when I try to run it on the projector. I attached to images, one shows the properties with they are looked at while the on the Computer and the second one shows nothing in the properties when they are put on the flash drive.

Does anyone have any idea what is happening.

    Thanks!
    Darryl

  2. Post a MediaInfo log. Those are more informative than the info you see in Windows explorer.

If you copy the file back from the USB drive to your PC does it work normally?

  3. No, it does not. I have some video files that were processed the same way that will work once transferred to the flash drive.

  4. Can you fully fill the USB drive with other files and successfully copy them back? There are some fake drives from China that can only hold e.g. 2 GB while representing themselves as e.g. 32 GB to Windows.

  5. A not supported error sounds like the projector does not support the profile/level of you MP4. PC playback of MP4s is generally better than hardware players because profile/level support can be limited, especially on older/cheaper devices.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H.264/MPEG-4_AVC#Profiles

I would check the manual of your projector to see exactly what is supported.

Also, it is possible the bitrate is too high for the USB port on the projector.

Like sneaker said, post the mediainfo as that will be much easier to diagnose.

If it is formatted with FAT32 (often the default format), you should not be able to copy files larger than 4 GB onto it without an error message that the copy failed. FAT32 supports only less than 4 GB per file. Devices handling potentially larger files often support either exFAT or NTFS as file systems on USB drives as well; you will have to reformat it in this case.
