  1. Sorry for the vague title, i do not know how to word it.

Im looking for a software that allows me to delete/edit the content of certain parts of a group of frames in a video.

    For example:

To change the advertisements board contents in a video of a person walking on the street.

Of course im not trying to do something that complicated.

I just want to delete a white text on a black background part on a video, and replace said white text with....more black background.

    Believe it out not
That is more like special effects work

You will need to cut/extract the frame sequence, as a lossless format
    Then extract each image frame,
    Color each frame
    Reassemble as a clip
Cut remove the original and insert the new clip
This Means cutting the original into pieces then assembling/apending them with the replacement inserted to replace the original

    ro·to·scope
    ˈrōdəˌskōp/
    noun
    1.
a device that projects and enlarges individual frames of filmed live action to permit them to be used to create cartoon animation and composite film sequences.
    verb
    1.
transfer (an image from live action film) into another film sequence using a rotoscope.
Rotoscoping is an animation technique in which animators trace over footage, frame by frame, for use in live-action and animated movies. Originally, recorded live-action movie images were projected onto a frosted glass panel and re-drawn by an animator. This projection equipment is referred to as a rotoscope. Although this device was eventually replaced by computers, the process is still referred to as rotoscoping.
In its more traditional use, rotoscoping meant tracing over live action footage frame by frame for use in animated films. That way the animator could get very realistic movements by tracing over the actor in the scene. You can kind of think of it as today’s motion capture.

That's...not really what i want to do. Or at leasts sounds way more complicated of what i want to do.

What you want to do IS complicated
You only think it is simple

Cutting out a scene Is Simple
Changing the content of the scene, aka replacing sign lettering.... is Not simple

  6. If the shot isn't moving you can just overlay a black box over the text. Trivial in any NLE.

Many years ago, I used Ulead Video Studio Pro 7 which had a program called 'Video Paint'. Effectively, you could simply color over parts of individual frames.

But it was a long process since each frame has to be done on its own and if there is color-shift it can result in blotching.

But surely any modern NLE can do this ?

Do a proper search on the term and you will see guides and software suggestions. Just it will take a lot of time and patience.

  8. Blackmagic has made their Fusion 7 software free:

    Download Blackmagic Fusion 7

As already stated, what you are trying to do was called rotoscoping when it was done on film (impossibly difficult). When done by software, it is often called motion tracking. You'll find tutorials on YouTube that show how to use Fusion to replace parts of a video with something else, even as things are moving.

    Fusion Motion Tracking Tutorials

As already noted, this is not child's play, and you should expect to spend a few hours learning this software (I have it, but haven't yet been able to quite figure it out), and then a few hours actually doing the work. However, once you get up to speed, you can do some amazing things.

  9. A nodal compositing program like Fusion might be overkill depending on just how hard the masking and tracking is. Billboards, which are usually rectangular with hard edges, are easy to mask off in a decent NLE. Rather, I would give Davinci Resolve's masking and tracking tools a try before employing a compositing program like Fusion. Resolve is really quite good if the portion of your film requiring masking doesn't have actors or objects moving around in the mask. It is only when you get into actors or objects moving around in the mask that you need to rotoscope. But even then, the latest version of Davinci Resolve makes rotoscoping almost painless.

Also, given that you want to replace white text on a black background with solid black, a simple power window in Resolve with a color qualifier might be all you need.

So it all depends on the footage and what you are trying to do, but believe it or not, if you know what you are doing, it can be simple and fast!

Just be aware that even Resolve is not a simple tool. Both Resolve and Fusion are professional software packages that can be a little overwhelming to anyone who doesn't have a lot of previous experience with pro software.

You can also do it with Aviutl. I actually made a tutorial on motion tracking a sign in the Z axis a couple of years ago.
