  1. Hiya guys, I am running a movie through my WDTV and it is 6 channel AAC audio, on my Denon AVRX2200 the sound only comes out stereo, after some research it seems my gear doesn't support multichannel AAC audio. So I need to convert it. I am told Handbrake makes this easy? I have downloaded it but no idea what to do?

I am not sure what format I need to convert the audio too? I dont want the video touched at all, am just confused, can anyone give me a quick step by step?

    File is MKV.

  2. HandBrake is not a good choice for this job because it always forces video re-encoding. AC3 is probably the most compatible multi-channel format.

Did you try the suggestion you've been given in your other thread?

I've done it using Audacity. You don't have to convert the audio format, just remix it to 2 Ch. Search for how. Then open the video in an editor and select import audio from an external file.

You also can use AVIDeMux, copy video and select AC3 for audio output. Then select your container format for output.

  5. Thanks, AVIDemux does the trick, what AC3 bitrate should I select though? when inputting AAC audio (on movies)

  6. For least amount of quality loss choose highest AC3 bitrate (640 kbps).

  7. I've been using PopCorn MKV AudioConverter to convert AAC5.1 to DD5.1.

It is a Matroska MKV DTS/AAC to MKV AC3 converter. It can also remove DTS tracks and convert OGG audio to AC3, MP3, AAC, MP3.

    Very easy tool, highly recommended.

  8. Wouldn't it be easier to play that movie with your computer, plugging the audio card to the amplifier ?
Anyway you have the original blu-ray disc, right ? ;^p (Just kidding... but some people around here are reluctant to provide any help when it comes to downloaded movies.)

That's because it is illegal and in some countries the sanctions are extremely severe.

I didn't say it was good or bad, and I can understand the reason behind this strict policy. I was just pointing out that in this particular case, someone observing that policy could have replied that a movie with 6 channel AAC is very probably a downloaded file, or the person asking made the conversion him/herself, in which case there'd be no need to make a second lossy compression from AAC...

That must be a bad thing, right ? Sorry if I let off a tiny bit of smirky-snarky steam in that one thread, while providing some hopefully helpful answers in a bunch of others, still hoping to get some feedback about one demand of mine which didn't get any so far. Maybe I did it in a wrong way, maybe noone can help me (which I cited as a possibility), but someone should have said something by now. So it's rather frustrating to see that a question like this (which indeed implies two lossy conversions and is very probably about illegally acquired copyrighted material -- normally two no-no's on specialized/technical forums like this) gets several replies almost immediately. Maybe that “neuron2” was a good guy who got frustrated after a while ? Maybe we should take care of the neuron 2's of the world and they'll reward the world tenfold afterwards, instead of being occasionally snarky, or blowing up a theater ?

Nope. Donald "neuron2" Graft is a very-sick person:

Damn, the guy gets entire threads devoted to his person, that's enough to warrant a glory status on teh internetz ! ;^p
But wait a minute... isn't this Donald Graft the author of a tremendous amount of prominent Avisynth and/or VirtualDub plugins/filters ? In which case I stand by my statement above (even though I haven't talked to the guy, or don't remember reading threads where he was actively involved) : he must have given to the world and spread worthwhile goods more than he did harm or caused annoyance.

  15. Yes he is, and he balanced that good by being the worst moderator on the internet... neuron2. He used to treat posters like criminals... quizzing them about the origins of any file that wasn't ripped from a disk.... and he'd close threads if the answer wasn't specific enough. I think most of the regulars knew write a "get past neuron2" post, but he'd hassle new members relentlessly. Even if they didn't even imply the file in question had been downloaded.... because that's literally the rule. No help for downloaded files you don't own, so don't mention downloading and you shouldn't be asked if you own them.... so he'd quiz posters hoping to find a reason to "moderate".
I recommended someone post in the MeGUI thread for help with a problem tears ago. A problem with the programs, not wanting help converting a specific file. They posted a link to the MeGUI log file as requested and neuron2 checked it from start to finish, looking fr a sign of a file that could have been downloaded, then he instructed everyone to refrain from helping with the MeGUI problem. Welcome to doom9. I must have been pissed because I said something to earn another strike. I remember that one.....

I did ask him once why DVDs are spacial and you can ask about converting them without fear of being hassled, despite the fact the files could still be downloaded, or borrowed, or rented. And even though the doom9 rules include instruction to ask a mod about the rules when you're not clear on them, I think that earned me a strike for discussing the rules. You can't discuss the rules or their interpretation, so neuron2 was free to change his interpretation as required in order to issue strikes. I asked him about that too... how do you follow the rules when you don't know how they'll be interpreted on any given day.... I'm pretty sure I earned another strike for that.

I've been tempted to ask how much the strike rate has dropped since neuron2 left doom9. There must be records, and it must have dropped about 100,000,000%.
Neuron2... proof that the more you moderate a forum, the more it needs moderating. Especially when the moderation in question isn't moderation in the usual sense.

I used to post, return to the main doom9 page and refresh it until neuron2 logged in to see how long it'd take him. He literally had the timing down to under 30 seconds at one stage. I assume the forum must have a function to notify mods when a particular person posts.... or it was sheer coincidence. Either that or he developed psychic mod-trolling abilities. I'm not sure.

After all this time... It feels liberating to get that off my chest.... which you couldn't consider doing at doom9 while neuron2 was moderating, because the doom9 rules don't let members have an opinions like a grown up.

Speaking of which, if ever there's a competition for the silliest forum rule on the internet, does the "don't ask what's best" rule have any competition? Will doom9 members ever be all grown up and able to respond to that question without fights breaking out, and without a need for the rule, like we somehow manage to do here?

O/T a bit - a friend of mine moved into a new apartment block as an owner as all the other occupants - at the first Strata meeting of occupants he attended, the first 'rule' they passed was "No rules shall be enacted" It's one of the happiest relaxed apartments in Sydney - but of course State government rules must be observed... so we have to 'render unto this or that Caesar no matter what our personal view may be.....
