Hi, May I know how much performance improvement would I get from a 6700k@4ghz vs 2500k@4.8ghz for the following operations?
Real time source footage 4k preview in premiere pro cc (h265 from nx1)
Encoding a 1 min h264 clip into h265 (it currently takes me more than 10 hours, which is kind of ridiculous).

Don't expect too much on 6700K - perhaps using Intel QSV may be more beneficial.

Does Premiere Pro CC use QSV? Also, I think QSV does not help with real-time previews.

First, the 2500K is non-hyperthreaded i5 Sandybridge proc while the 6700K is a hyperthreaded i7 Skylake which offers AVX2 and FMA support vs SB. Second, benchmarks show x264 1080p encodes speed up to 82 fps for the 6700K from 49 fps the 2600K, so a 10 hour encode on a 2600K would take ~6 hours on a 6700K.
So not quite an apples-apples comparison. First, the bump from 2500K to 2600K should add about 7% increase in speed. So maybe you could expect to see 1.75x. Second, I am not sure how much better optimized/threaded HEVC is versus x264. IOW, you may be seeing a smaller bump for HEVC in CC than x264. Lastly, encoding within PP CC is highly dependent on how many gpu intensive effects you have applied. All of the benchmarks I have quoted above assume pure CPU encoding. You may see much smaller improvements if you use gpu heavy effects but it doesn't sound like you are.
You might try writing a lossless intermediate out from PP and encode that using x265. It may be faster especially if your encode is two pass.
Bottomline, HEVC makes a strong use case for Intel's Extreme sku's if you can swing the price. Those 82 fps I quoted for the 6700K jump to 124 fps for a 5960X.
