    How bout that Windows 10?

I kinda like it. It's simplified, clean, and seems to work well.

  4. It fine. I like it better than 8.1. I've been using it since day 1.

However, I still think win2000 was far and away their fastest and most stream lined OS and it had Plug in play that NT didn't have

I keep getting the offer on my windows 7 laptop, but its not a touch screen. Wish i could stop it from popping up every day. Anyway.

I decided that I would go with it completely when I get a new laptop. I am currently searching for an 11" give/take to replace my recently purchased Ausus Transfermer because it has 1gb ram and 32gb hdd and XE7 Pro won't fully install on it. So I need one with 4GB ram and bigger HDD.

After settling with a couple of win8.1 tablets, I decided it was not so bad after all. I'm hoping that 10 will include all the tweak toys, like icon shuffling on the status bar, and desktop icon save feature, to name a few. On my windows 7 laptop, I hate it when the desktop icons reshuffle out of order for no reason and I have to rebuild it. There's a few other tweaks that I can't think of at the moment but that I hope 10 will include without having to search for them for 10 and install. That's a pain. Anyway. I can't wait to find that new laptop.

If Microsoft change Windows onetime pay to subscription model, then would Linux be a good alternative ? Now that Microsoft has changed it's policy where older OS will be able to run on new CPU.

Think I'll take Win7/64 as far as it will take me.

I'm with you, KarMa. I have some very nice older hardware (an E-MU converter) that I barely got working under Win 7. I'm not upgrading the OS until my hardware conks out.

  9. I'm worried about some of my legacy 'old' programs like Quickbooks. I haven't been able to find out if my old version will run on Win 10 so still on Win 7 64 here.

Yeah, it will probably work. I use some very old software too. I'm running on Surface Pro 4. Check the QuickBooks forum.

The big deal of Win10 is the Universal Apps, and the Pen. The pen can annotate PDF's.

  12. I got dragged kicking and screaming into Win10 x64 Pro because I upgraded a key piece of software that doesn't play nice with Win7 x64 Pro. It came down to: do I downgrade the software to stay with W7 or upgrade the OS? The other thing that pushed me over the edge was my BMD IP4K card was starting to give me headaches on W7. So for better or for worse, W7 was simply starting to feel its age. Fortunately, nVidia finally released non-beta W10 versions of their Quadro drivers which made the upgrade a slightly less painful pill to swallow.

Do I like Win10 better? Well, I can say I truly prefer smoothly running software and staying up to date versus the headaches I was experiencing in W7. I have always said, I am OS agnostic and all about the apps. And I guess I need to add to that, I am now OS version agnostic as well. Some things are just more important than the OS. Don't let the tail wag the dog.

Windows 10 is much better than Windows 8. The only issue i come across is the annoying update notifications.

There's no more service packs. The updates come in automatically from time to time in the background. There's no disruption.

  15. ^This. Win7 only released one. Win8 none. The new process is cumulative updates from Microsoft' Update Catalog which is what I use for my custom build images.

^^I keep my status bar on the right and on auto-hide. Have done so for years. So I am still getting accustomed to thinking—hey, what is that down there? is that something important? What? MS thinks I need an AV? lol!—whenever I activate my status bar since most of my attention is at the top of the status bar, not the bottom. Just a tip. But I really like the new layout of the Start menu (or whatever it is called). I can now easily organize and access the dozen or so programs I constantly bounce back and forth in, but can't keep running simultaneously.
