Oh dear god!!!
That would be the WORST thing to use to clean the rotary heads of a VCR!!!!!

Little fibers coming off a cotton swab sticking into all kinds of little areas on the heads!!

This is what I have used, or used to use, back in the day,
M.G. Chemical Chamois Swabs





I still have a bag of them along with the cleaning solution,
chemtronics head cleaner



That can is ages old and I have not opened it in probably a decade, LOL!!
But I am sure they still make it in a more modern container.

Otherwise why not spit on a Qtip and wash your laser lenses with saliva!!!

Ahhh the good ol days......
Books, magazines, ordering stuff out of catalogs and the back of magazines.....

Regarding regular cotton swabs for cleaning, I've done it as an absolute last ditch effort (no late night stores open in the 80's) and it's scary as h*ll when you see those fibers sticking to the videoheads!
