Hi all, I basically have the exact same issue as Gerff who posted his issue here.
Problem is, I have absolutely no idea what to do with the suggested tool.
I've opened the video file using the mkvtoolnix-gui. The attachments tab shows no files, so I assumed the irritating thumbnail is encoded within the video itself.
So next I went into the Output tab and told it to split after a specific timecode which I set to 00:01:00. The video looked like it split successfully, except now both the videos have the irritating thumbnail.
I did notice that within the "Tracks, chapters, tags and attachments" box on the Input page there were 3 tags under the Codecs heading. Perhaps this is what I should be editing?
I'm pretty lost at what I need to do and would really appreciate any help (maybe an idiot-proof guide?) on fixing this. Thanks.

Adding custom cover art or thumbnail to MKV:
1)In mkvmergeGUI add mkv or mp4 video
2) go to "Attachments" tab and add image file with name cover.jpg of poster or thumbnail,
more info for specification and options for image files: http://www.matroska.org/technical/cover_art/index.html
3)Click Start muxing
There is a mkv sample file with cover art
Enabling in Windows custom thumbnail cover art:
1)install Icaros
2)enable in Icaros Use embedded cover art

Thanks Roma. However, while the instructions you've posted are excellent for embedding a custom thumbnail I want to the exact opposite. I've tried to do a reversal of the steps in embedding the custom thumbnail with the sample file. The same issue persists the attachment (ie image thumbnail) does not show up within the attachment tab.

What does the 'irritating thumbnail' look like? How long have you been using MKVs and how many do you have?
