  1. I have Firefox 3.6 and I don't want cookies to ever be set. In Tools>options>privacy
(see screenshot) I can delete cookies on demand, but I don't want to do this; I just don't want the cookies to be set in the first place.

  2. 3.6? You're a little behind the times. They're up to version 16 now. Good luck finding anyone else with a version that old. What other choices are there in the pulldown that reads Remember History?

In the current version there's an explicit Accept Cookies section if you enable custom settings:

You'll have to allow specific exceptions because some sites won't work without cookies.

Firefox considers ALL of the 3.x versions to be insecure. Just FYI.

jagabo is quite correct that some sites won't work without cookies. Complex business related websites may have very valid reasons for requiring them. It's not just all about spying on users and seeing where else they've been.

I've played around with the pulldown that reads Remember History. I'll see how things operate.

I have to admit I kind of agree with noahtuck here.

I mean really ... ff 3.6? Any security concerns you have with tracking cookies are far outweighed by using a browser that's so out of date. I don't believe in automatically updating every app program I have but anything to do with in net, yes.

The only conceivable reason I can think of not to use the latest ff is that a couple of buddies of mine still run win xp and the newer ff versions give them problems. In which case I'd just switch browsers.

Basically, by using an out of date browser you're leaving yourself extremely vulnerable to javascript attacks. And you can't stop java from running. You could try noscript (but I don't know how many other browsers than ff it works on, or with a stone age version of firefox like yours). But I fear noscript is a little beyond many users like yourself.

It's time to upgrade. I am running FF 17 beta1- no problems.

  8. Dear readers.

In defence to the OP, I have to say that I am a big fan of Firefox 3.6, and I am using it right now. I use it in LiveCD mode, so I am not particularly concerned about attacks (as you know, everything is deleted after each session in LiveCD mode).

Jimdagys, if there is not a native way to delete all cookies permanently in Firefox 3.6, it could be the case that there is an add-on to achieve this. If you haven't solved your problem yet, please post back, and I will try to find this out for you.
