    Hello,

I'm running VirtualDub 1.9.11 on an XPSP3 host, and need to extract a segment from a 500MB, 1h22mn, MP4 file encoded in H264+AAC.

I followed this tip to install AVISynth, created "C:\myfile.h264.aac.mp4.avs", and dragged it to VirtualDub.

Next, I selected a start/end segment, chose Video > Direct Stream Copy, and hit File > Save AVI: For some reason, this 10mn segment, which should about 60MB, is several GB's.

So, I then tried Video > Full processing mode, but it didn't help.

Why is that? What can I do so that the segment has a "normal" size?

    Thank you.

Avisynth will make it "uncompressed" so it will be huge.

I would instead try avidemux, under video and audio choose copy, set start and stop, save as a new mp4.

Thanks, Avidemux (r7604) did the trick. For some reason, converting to an AVI using VLC ended up with a sound-less file.

Some day, I'll understand why video on the Net is such a complicated matter.
