    Hi,

Just a few questions about VirtualDub

Currently filtering mpeg2 files, would like to use some of the VD filters to fix errors in the video. However can't edit like 2 hour videos cause I run out of room on my PC. Would like to make smaller output files, basically want to take the filtered file and issue back to DVD.

The next problem when I create these massive AVI files they have bad interlacing issues, would like the output file to have the same interlacing as the DVD or mpeg2 file.

The first problem you could get around by frameserving the VD edited/filtered video directly to a MPEG encoder, then you wouldn't have a in-between edited file taking up hard drive space. https://www.videohelp.com/oldguides/virtualdubframeserve

    The second part: Don't deinterlace.

when I create these massive AVI files
If you intend the final format to be AVI, under 'Video', choose 'Compression' and select a codec else the output is uncompressed..

  5. If you can't frameserve, install HuffYUV or Lagarith to get you lossless compression. That should shrink your intermediate files to about 1/3 to 1/4 the uncompressed size. HuffYUV is faster but doesn't compress as much. Lagarith compresses more but isn't as fast.

  7. Extract the files to a suitable location -- like the Desktop. Right click on the INF file and select Install. The DLL is copied to where it needs to be and registered with the system. You can then delete the files on the Desktop (or wherever).

If you are running 64 bit Windows the procedure may be a little different.

  9. If you are running the 64 bit version of VirtualDub be sure to get a 64 bit version of HuffYUV. Under 64 bit Windows 64 bit programs require 64 bit codecs, 32 bit programs require 32 bit codecs.

When running 32 bit VirtualDub and installing 32 bit HuffYUV under 64 bit Windows you need a special installation procedure:

Lagarith seemed to install fine, so testing out a 50 minute video, report back when it is done...
