Ive got a JVC HDD evario camera - Not that impressed with it

    1. It's recorded files are a MOD codec (a type of MPEG2 codec. annoying!! but i'm stuck with it).

    2. FFmpeg can play the video in its preview box, but no sound.

    3. I hoped that the sound would come through if i did a transcode to another format...But it does NOT

    (OS=MAC OSX LEOPARD)

the details of the MOD clip:
    Video Tracks: 224 MPEG-2, 720 × 576, 4:3, 25 fps, 8.90 Mbps, upper field first

    Audio Tracks:128 AC3 2/0, 48 kHz, 384 kbps

Any thoughts or advice, i'd be grateful
    thanks

P.S Not sure if this is relevant but, the files play fine in MPEGstreamclip (sound works also). If my memory serves me well (i got the camera 3 years ago), i'm sure it would only play in mpegstreamclip after i got the MPEG 2 plugin)....But i could be wrong??

P.P.S. I have uploaded one of my MOD files in question to
https://www.yousendit.com/download/Y1RxNU1CZEt0QTBLSkE9PQ ....available for 7 days only(6 second clip=size=5.7 MB...if you want to see if you can get sound in ffmpeg then i'd be thankful

P.P.S I originally posted in PC forums (it was an accident, so in case of repitition heres the link https://forum.videohelp.com/topic370857.html#1988712)

ffmpeg is not ffmpegX. Please be accurate about the tools you use. I suppose you meant ffmpegX, as you talk about previewing. Also note that Videohelp.com has a separate ffmpegX forum.

The mencoder engine (e.g. the default DivX mencoder preset in ffmpegX) does not find the audio in this file, but the ffmpeg engine (e.g. XviD ffmpeg preset in ffmpegX) does find it. I tried it with your sample file. But... mencoder can be tricked to find the audio by renaming the file to "5.VOB". Somehow that alters the way it looks for an audio stream.
