Because the old LG broke down, I had to buy a new LG, the RH387 (H).
Unfortunately, this item was not sold region-free, as my other LG's were.
Hacking for most LG's (7 times 0 on the remote) did not work either.
I have a large collection of import DvD's, so any hint is welcome!

  3. External hard drive works!

I bought a 1 terabyte external hard drive (it was SATA, so I couldn't put it into the RH387, which is IDE), re-formatted it as fat32, and loaded a bunch of movies on it. Once I plugged the usb line into the RH387 and selected USB from the home menu, it took two or three minutes for it to recognize the drive, but it eventually came up on the screen and shows and plays all the divx movies I put on there fine.

One more mark in favor of the LG.

I own an LG RH-387 DVD recorder and I have tried every hack mentioned here without success. When I tried to get into the LG site http://hk.lge.com/support/support_lgeservice.jsp "Product Support" in order to download the .iso file I get a compile error message and I cannot access the "Device Drive" page. All other attempts with the padlock and the 0's were with no success. Can anybody help?

I had the same problem but i found the correct file structure for the CD here http://www.multi-region.net/tevion_md_81335. Burn the CD_CODEFREE.zip contents to a CD.Make sure to finalise! Play it on your RH387 and you can set region=0 for zonefree.
The RH387.zip contains the RH387.ISO image that worked for me. Unit was bought Jan 2011

Same CD (iso image) worked on an LG DVX642H.

I still remember how I could feel his panic in his words even through the text.

Even though it's completely off topic, I'd still like to comment - what would be interesting to many members is if you can reverse this process, in other words, by migrating files from the LG to the external hard drive.

You can bet bids will go up for it worldwide if so since none AFAIK can do that.

Nevertheless, LG makes solid decoders in their machines such as BD playing non-compliant BD, playing weird MPEG-4 files, MKVs, and recognizing appropriate PAR flags in AVIs, etc.
