Because the old LG broke down, I had to buy a new LG, the RH387 (H).
Unfortunately, this item was not sold region-free, as my other LG's were.
Hacking for most LG's (7 times 0 on the remote) did not work either.
I have a large collection of import DvD's, so any hint is welcome!

External hard drive works!
I bought a 1 terabyte external hard drive (it was SATA, so I couldn't put it into the RH387, which is IDE), re-formatted it as fat32, and loaded a bunch of movies on it. Once I plugged the usb line into the RH387 and selected USB from the home menu, it took two or three minutes for it to recognize the drive, but it eventually came up on the screen and shows and plays all the divx movies I put on there fine.
One more mark in favor of the LG. -
I successfully did it to my LG RH387(h) a few minutes ago.
Follow the following steps wiith your RC:
MAKE THE DVD RECORDER REGION FREE:
A. press "Setup" on the remote control;
B. go onto padlock icon without selecting it;
C. press 0 button seven times;
D. a message will appear confirming that "your unit is now region-free"

I own an LG RH-387 DVD recorder and I have tried every hack mentioned here without success. When I tried to get into the LG site http://hk.lge.com/support/support_lgeservice.jsp "Product Support" in order to download the .iso file I get a compile error message and I cannot access the "Device Drive" page. All other attempts with the padlock and the 0's were with no success. Can anybody help?

I had the same problem but i found the correct file structure for the CD here http://www.multi-region.net/tevion_md_81335. Burn the CD_CODEFREE.zip contents to a CD.Make sure to finalise! Play it on your RH387 and you can set region=0 for zonefree.
The RH387.zip contains the RH387.ISO image that worked for me. Unit was bought Jan 2011
Same CD (iso image) worked on an LG DVX642H.Last edited by mnenz; 5th Feb 2012 at 03:30.

Wow....yet another thread full of first-time posters posting complete nonsense and rubbish in order to get their jollies somehow. Where do these freaks come from?

That attachment worked, thanks a lot mnenz!

I still remember how I could feel his panic in his words even through the text.I hate VHS. I always did. -
Even though it's completely off topic, I'd still like to comment - what would be interesting to many members is if you can reverse this process, in other words, by migrating files from the LG to the external hard drive.
You can bet bids will go up for it worldwide if so since none AFAIK can do that.
Nevertheless, LG makes solid decoders in their machines such as BD playing non-compliant BD, playing weird MPEG-4 files, MKVs, and recognizing appropriate PAR flags in AVIs, etc.I hate VHS. I always did. -

ok people, my RH387H remote does not have any numbers on it so where do we go from here?
- as I am in N.Z. it appears us kiwis get different stuff to you guys,all my remote has is the usual opperation buttons without the numbers,and LG have changed their site in the last few days,so can not acsess technical pages.I got the image up on the screen but obviously could not change to code free/0
- which brings me to this.thought i would go outside the square and alter the setting by opening the file on my pc and then put the cd back in the player.problem is I can not open the file on my pc.not reconised.
- the challenge to everyone is .........can anyone help?
