I'm thinking about investing in some HD-DVD burning hardware, I already use my 360 HD-DVD drive to backup my discs to my PC but what would I need to burn them to HD-DVD? Apart from a HD-DVD burner of course.

Is there any Dual Layer HD-DVD recordable media yet? Most of my films are way over 20GB so the single layer HD-DVD media I've seen would be of no use.

Is there any software like DVD Shrink for HD-DVDs to get rid of stuff I don't want and leave me just with the movie and possibly reduce the size? What software would I need to actually burn th video files to disc?

Can't really seem to find much information on the subject.

Not really an answer, but this post might give you some ideas. High Definition hardware, software and media are very new at present and there isn't much out there for the consumer. https://forum.videohelp.com/topic335073.html#1743250

    And welcome to our forums.

EDIT: Some HD authoring programs here: https://www.videohelp.com/tools/sections/authoring-bd-hd-dvd

  3. 1.There are no HD DVD writers now only readers (Toshiba & LG).
2.DVDFab Decrypter can rip HD DVD's.

Side note:There are writers and authoring programs for Blu-Ray,the SL blank media is available for both formats but it costs ~$15.

  4. Stand-alone HD-DVD/Blue-Ray burners are not available, but I am sure that was not what you meant anyway.

If cost is not of an issue I highly recommend the LG-GGW-H10G as it is the only Blue-Ray DVD-burner and HD-DVD reader. If you are set in stone with just one format then there is several companies that provide either Blue-Ray burners or HD-DVD burners for the PC. Check out the DVD Writers section on the left and check-mark the BD or HD-DVD format you want.

Dual Layer blanks are expensive at around 25-30USD (expensive coasters as I would call them)- so for me that is not a viable option. I have instead invested in a NAS where I back all my movies up and if the media prices come down I can always transfer this back to Blue-ray DL discs later on.
Listen to me now and believe me later

SVP sell Blue-Ray burners from various manufactuers and media to suit, and can ship worldwide if you cannot source locally

SlySoft AnyDVD HD can rip a blue-ray or HD discs, and also ConvertXToDVD can easily convert the main movie to DVD-5 or DVD-9 to play in a standard DVD player

I've personally converted a HD movie to DVD-5 so I know it works
