  1. Hi all. Hope this is right forum for this question.

I have recently come up with an issue playing Mpegs on my pc. Whereas before I would click on an mpeg and it would just play, I now have a delay where the following happens ...

    1) the media player screen appears and it says "100% of 1k loaded"
    2) It then says "Attempting codec download"
    3) connecting to site 207.46.249.55
    4) "finding site microsoft.com"
    5) "website found"
    6) "unable to download appropriate decompressor"
    7) The video then plays anyway.

So, why is it connecting to that ip and then downloading 1K of something, and why does it not remember these settings as opposed to doing the same thing every time I load an mpeg? Any ideas would be appreciated.

    Oh .. I'm on Windows XP SP2.

Something is wrong with your Media Player. You can turn off the function to connect to Microsoft with Xpy . http://xpy.whyeye.org/

The mpeg2 codec isn't provided by Microsoft (last time I checked, anyway). Download this one if you still have problems playing back Mpeg2.

Sounds like you have a codec registration issue. WMP is attempting to download the codec, but it isn't supplied by microsoft. All you should need to do is correct the codec issue.

You can use codec sniper to view and/or remove corrupt codecs. Then just reinstall any codecs that you require.

  5. Would love to use codec sniper but I'm getting that german error message. Is there a more stable version or an equiv?

I believe dxman will do the same thing, but I've never used it.
