so i know about a couple charges ebay does one first time fee for "selling" an item, and another if your item is actually sold.

but my question, say i want to put a cd up to sell - how long can i have it for sale? do i got to pay for how long i want it up or how does that work?

Right on, got that (now as far some help advice from some of you ebay users)!

This is going to be my first item i'm selling, ive got zero feedback. Would you guys suggest i put this item up (a cd i'm going to be selling) for really cheap just for some sort of good feedback hopefully?

I'm going to be putting this [link edited out - no advertising - moderators] up, there is a few starting at 9.98$ buy now/sealed which is the same as mine. What should i start this thing at i was thinking 7 or 8.00$ maybe even less & should i go for the bid or buy now??

any help to me get on my way to selling and shopping away is appreciated!

IMO, selling price won't earn you positive feedback - promptness and being fair on your shipping costs. Also make sure the item isn't broken when the buyer receives.

Remember this is an auction - the buyer can't give bad feedback because of price as he's agreed to pay the price.

Also remember you have to eat your auction costs (posting, selling and PayPal) - so at $10 (assume winning bid) you're not going to make a lot of money.

As soon as you receive payment give feedback for the buyer and ship asap. Pack well for shipping.

If there is a lots of simmillar cd's for sale use auction format and start the prize as low as you can. If your cd is not very popular, but you want to sell it anyway sell with bin prize.

  6. An an ebay seller, it has been my experience that it is best not to leave feedback for a buyer until they have done so for you. The theory is that a buyer is less likely to leave negative feedback if the seller still has the opportunity to do the same.
Obviously, once they've paid, received the item and left positive feedback for you there's no reason not to do the same for them.

Oh and if you're planning to accept paypal, beware of accepting that method of payment for high value items. If you've already posted something and paypal reverses the transaction, you could end up with no goods and no money either. I've personally not had any problems with paypal but there are some horror stories (and several court cases) around.

What you are talking about is feedback blackmail. It's unethical and I detest it. If I promptly pay for the item, I have fulfilled my part of the transaction. That's it. I deserve positive feedback. If the seller fails to hold up their end of the deal they derseve a negative feedback.

Negative feedback is a last resort. One that most people don't take lightly. But if seller has it coming then they are going to get itfrom me. No amount of threats of retaliation are going to stop me.

It's just so much easier to buy retail than to have to deal with the wackos floating around on Ebay. You might pay a little more, but you don't have to worry about running into deadbeats and psychos.

I don't see it as blackmail, and I certainly don't think there's anything unethical about it. As a buyer or a seller, I can choose to leave positive or negative feedback, or none at all. No-one has to leave feedback, it's optional. What someone deserves is a matter of personal opinion.

You're quite right, there are some wackos on ebay. Some of them, it seems, are there with the sole purpose of messing things up for other ebayers. There was someone on there last year (MrB0ll0x) or something like that, who seemed to derive great pleasure just from leaving abusive and negative feedback for people. One person who got feedback like this was someone from the US who had already left good feedback for him, and he gave a negative, stating the reason as being that he was American and 'deserved' it because of the gulf war. There were some defamatory, extremely odd and almost disturbing comments on this ebayer's feedback pages. It it wasn't so sad, it would have almost been funny. People work hard to achieve and maintain their feedback score and if it does get damaged, it can be very time consuming and difficult to correct it, and sometimes involves many hours of effort, emails and the preparation of court papers to be served on ebay's legal department.

As you say, there are some weirdos on there, but one way to avoid them is to look at some of the feedback comments they have left for others, and if you're not happy about anything, remove their bid.

You can also march into the shop and confront a real person about any issues, without being blown off, not called back or not emailed back.
    If in doubt, Google it.
