  1. All right, here is the mystery. I connected my laptop to my tv using a converter box going from S-video to box to coaxial (TV has no video in, older) to TV. I can see the computer windows screen on my TV, can see the application (Windows Media Player for example), BUT I cannot see the video playing on the computer on TV. What is going on?

    Thanks.

No mystery. The video is decoded with help of the graphics card hardware, called overlay / hardware acceleration, but it's probably only enabled on the primary display(the monitor now). So set the TV-Output to the primary monitor display in your display settings or disable hardware acceleration in Windows Media Player. Some graphics cards has other special modes for this like ati has a cinema mode or similiar.

  4. Thanks guys, Baldrick, playing with some "advanced" settings did the trick. We had connected everything correctly. But now video disappeared from Laptop screen but that is a minor thing

Overlay can generally only be displayed on one screen. That's how it works.

I'm having the exact same problem trying to send video from my T40 (which has the ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 graphics chip) to my TV over S-Video.

I can't seem to get the TV to allow me to make the TV my primary display - at best I can clone the TV to the laptop. But -- as described above -- while I can see the desktop on the TV, I can't see any moving video. I tried taking down the hardware acceleration, but that just left me with black boxes on BOTH the TV and the laptop display.

Anyone know how to get the overlay running on both display, in the event it isn't possible for me to make the TV primary (though if you know how to do that, it seems like it would suffice).

    Thanks!
