  1. Hi all. I have some video footage on DVD. I recorded it on a standalone dvd recorder. I am trying to edit the commercials out and put it back on dvd. Here's the problem i'm having.

I use Ulead DVD Movie Factory 2. I took the DVD, and made it into 6 mpeg2 video files. As those of you who have used DMF2, it does NOT support ac3 encoded video files, so i have to convert the AC3 encoded mpeg2 files into wav (OR Mp3) encoded mpeg2 files. I used the Goldwave suggestion on this website by using ac3 filter. I take the video file, load it into goldwave, and it loads the audio (since it doesn't know what video is.) I now have a wav file. I use DMF2's "replace the audio" function to merge the video with the newly formed wav file. At first, everything is ok, but as it plays on about 3 minutes into the video, it becomes out of sync. It came from the same video file, but something messed up and it got out of sync.

Does anyone have any suggestion to fix the sync?

    I'd appreciate any help!

Check the overall length of the video file VS the audio file. Maybe too much 'slicing and dicing' has changed the length of one or the other. That's one of the problems with FAT32 drives, having to chop up the video to work with it.

  3. Use Mpeg2Schnitt - free and much faster software of cutting out commercials in PAL DVDs. Just a little mess while discovering what all those buttons do - no popup descriptions. But very convenient when you find out how. It cuts everything without decompressing, still it has to create new file to make changes - better choose a different drive then it will be a breeze. Probably before working with it you will have to demux the audio and video tracks with VobEdit to one folder – load the video and the Mpeg2Schnitt will pickup audio automatically. Load first VOB in VobEdit and use demux all audio and demux all video chekboxes in VobEdits demux dialog.
If the video is NTSC, the Mpeg2Schnitt will work if it is full not pulldowned 29.7 fps. Otherwise it will mess up framerate. Which will probaly be possible to fix with DVDPatcher.
    Cann't tell it's possible don't tell anything.

    Two things.
Next time...before finalizing the disc...try to put chapter markers on the disc with the recorder....that will solve 90% of your problems in the future. Of course put the chapter markers where you need them....not random.

Also look into MF2's "Edit Disc" function. Record to a +RW disc and you can edit ON the disc....nothing touches your hard drive AND you will still retain your AC3 audio(provided you did not upgrade your version MF2). This AC3 passthru ability on the Edit Disc portion of the software was later disabled by an upgrade...DUMB move for Ulead.

    EDIT:
Edit Disc is painfully slow....but rather unique and useful until you get the hang of computer DVD-ing with more complicated tools.

    ==================================

Use the commercial removal guide first .

Then delete all vob's containing rubbish .

Then demux first vob (seperate video / audio)
Convert audio using besweet to ac3
Move to a new folder ... rename both to "clip1"

    Repeat step's for vob part 2 .
Move to that new folder and rename both to "clip2"

Continue till all video / audio component's have been moved into this new folder , and named .

    Delete all vob's .

Run dvdauthorgui ... add all video stream's / audio stream's via name method (so you dont get them mixed up)
    Generate menu's with required button's .
Check all connection's are correct and linked .

    Author to folder .

Play test ... if navigational error
Open this dvd in pgcedit , and locate the area that contain's the nav issue .
Edit nav command's to correct function .

    Save dvd , a retest playback .

Simple when one know's how ... but the more you use these few free tool's , the quicker you will be able to perform the same funtion's next time you need them .
