    Seems to work much better than the old one. Read the read me for the installation location and don't forget to remove the old AC3 component from the Library/Quicktime folder.

    This new component crashes quicktime one every xvid .avi I encoded using ffmpegX.

    It plays properly on my other xvid/divx .avi videos encoded with handbrake or streamclip or d-vision.

    Oh yeah, all of the videos I'm talking about use 'ac3 passthrough'

    Can anyone confirm? Any ideas?

    Are your Computer details right? 10.2.3? You need the latest and greatest for this component according to the Product Requirements at VersionTracker. It works great on my machines with 10.4.6 and QT 7.1.1.

    I really can't remember the last time I used ffmpegX to mux AC3 audio and video. I ran into a problem a while back and have been using D-Vision to mux stereo audio tracks. For 6 channel AVI AC3s I've been using either AVImerge in D-Vision (to join) or VirtualDubMod in VPC for muxing. You might try extracting the AC3 track using ffmpegX and then switch over to D-Vision to mux the tracks together again and see what happens. I have a large number of 6 channel AC3 AVIs on my machine and so far they all work fine with the new plug-in.

    Yes, I'll give that a try, or I could go back to the older component, or hope that an update fixes my problem.

    The older component works for me, but if I drag the playhead on the timeline, or skip around the timeline, I lose audio sync. Is that the same problem you had with the older one?

    Yep, if you tried fast forwarding or skipping around you usually ended up closing the movie and reopening to get the audio back. Very annoying.

    What I want to know is:
    Does it handle ac3 files created via
    A.Pack or Compressor 2?

    Yep, I've replaced a large number of variable bitrate MP3 audio tracks using Compressor 2 stereo AC3s. They work fine. Here's another problem I've had with ffmpegX;

    Tugboat,
    I used d-vision to extract the audio, extract the video, then add the audio to the video.

    The resulting .avi opened and played in QT!
    However, thats something I don't really want to do for 50 or so files.

    Anyone having a similar problem?

    I'd just like to point out that there is another thread over in the ffmpegX forum. I have a 6 picture essay over there pointing out just how broken ffmpegX is at present. I'd like to know if anyone else has had different results trying the same procedures that I have documented.
