I'm trying to help someone with a school project, and they need just a small clip from an old VHS tape. I have the clip recorded and no longer have the tape here...

When I stick it on DVD, everything's great. However, I can't get my VCR to record without macrovisions kicking in(and they need a VHS copy...) I promise I'm not trying to copy the movie(trust me, I have no desire for the old B&W Treasure Island movie! ) I just need a 5 second clip for their video...

Is there any software that will remove macrovision from captured videos? They were captured though DV and going back though DV(my Sony camcorder to the VCR) Playback is though Premiere...

If I need to, I can encode to some other format or use TV-Out on my video card, if there's some method that way. I have a GeForce 6200...

Is that vcr that was trying to record it anything other than a ordinary 2 headed unit ... stereo unit's will cut in and out ... some go dark , bright , dark , bright , and so on ... other's keep flicking to "blue screen" ...

Tv out is not a bad method ... I do this all the time with game console's (record and playback) ... mostly for video playback to tv while I work on other project's .

Instead of sending it throught the cam can't you just record it from DVD?

The macrovision signal in VHS is destroyed once the video is converted to digital. It's for preventing the origianl copy from ever being made. But.... and it took me afew searches to find this.... https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=274473
