  1. I'll be buying a CD printer in the next 2 weeks or so & was wondering which are some I should look into. I heared the Epson's are good but also see people talking about this Canon one. Also what are some good printable media brands I should look into. I'm located in the US so i'll be ordering from US sites.

Thanks if advance for your help.

I have the EpsonR200 and love it. I am also using a CIS kit from JWLSales. I only use verbatim white hub printables for my printing media, never had a problem with any of my verbatims, over 100 used.

Epson r200 with a CIS. Over 1500 TY DVD-R's no issues at all. You can get the R220 the newest Epson printer from Best Buy for 99.00 and a 50.00 rebate.

  4. I have an Epson R320 and have used various white inkjet printable media (both hub and non-hub printable media) with good results.
I've used TDK, Ritek and Benq.
I think the R320 is being replaced with the R340.
Burn first - print later when doing this.

  5. Unless Epson have modified the R200 since I bought mine, I would be wary - mine works well on the whole but the tray loading method for printing on discs is very erratic. It is most unlikely I would buy another - but if you're lucky and get a good one...

Actually there was a thread or something about this not long ago.

    Found it:
    https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?p=1411798#1411798

They changed the tray design & got rid of the small thin clear plastic that was used to pull the tray in and made the whole thing solid if i remember correctly.
And you could even get one of the newer trays by requesting it from epson.
Can't remember if it was free of $5.00 for shipping or what.

And i'm sure since they have introduced the newer models they would be using the new style trays.

Do they even make the R200's anymore ?

  7. in the US, you can't get a Canon printer with the CD/DVD-printing function. Apparently, Epson has patent priority here.

I have an Epson R300 and have encountered the slippage problem with the CD tray mentioned above. I found by experimentation that, in the entry position, the weight of the tray was causing the inserted end to lift up slightly, giving poor contact with the rollers that pull the tray into the printer. I just press up on the end of the tray slightly until the rollers get a grip, and it continues with no problem.

It was free I told them mine was having trouble being pulled in "slight lie", just wanted the newer tray, they sent it free no questions. My R200 is about 2yrs old I think?

About three years ago the company I worked at, a disk duplicator place, got a modified Canon... For about $650. The printer itself was like $150 at the time. And the "template" that feeds through was just a piece of plastic with a whole in the middle size of a CD. He-he-he. Never did use it much.

I also have the 200. The older tray had issues, the new tray which I got about 3 months ago has had no issues. The r220 and r320 both use the new tray. Goodluck.

  12. I bought an R200 last summer. Once its original set of ink ran out,
I gave the printer away. Because of the ink, R200 is too expensive
to own for me. I do not want to touch CIS because of a very loooooog
discussion about its makes me feel uneasy. (It is one of the longest
    thread in this forum.)

Now I am using Canon printer (iP6000). It is a printer much cheaper
and much easier to own. (I bought it from Amzon for about $100 and
another $20 for a CD printing tray from e-bay.)

  13. Oh, I also had tray loading problem with R200. Until I gave it away,
I still had not figured out why it sometimes was working and sometimes
    not.

I must be one of the lucky ones then? I've never had a problem with my R200 or the JWLSales CIS kit. Actually going to buy the new JWLSales CIS kit soon, which has an easier refill conatiner.

  15. I too have had problems with the R200. Tray issues, ink issues etc. The Canon is not free of problems either, but I think you may have less problems with it imo.

I've been using my R200 for several months and have never experienced any malfunctions. It has always worked as designed.

I had a R200 for the last year and had many problems with it feeding the CD tray into the printer. I just purchased an ip5000 Canon (discontinued model) and modified it to print CD's. It is SOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooo much faster than the Epson! To my eyes the print quality is better and the feeding of the CD tray is quick and smooth. If you should decide to get a Canon the modifications to the firmware are simple and quick and CD trays are availible on e-bay or you can do like I did and make your own. Instructions are here:http://pixma.web1000.com/

I say "keep it simple" and get the CASIO CW-50 which is a nice basic unit that can print text and simple graphics onto a plain disc such as Taiyo Yuden DVD-R or Taiyo Yuden DVD+R discs.

A friend of mine has this unit (actualy he has the "step up" unit but I can't find it on-line ... perhaps it is discontinued?) and he prints on the Taiyo Yuden blanks and it looks simple yet eloquent without any smudging or all the other problems you get with the inkjet printers.

I'd get one myself but I hate spending money (I don't have) so I just use CD/DVD safe Sharpie markers LOL

FWIW the Canon i865 has been most serviceable for me.

I *believe* our US & Canadian friends may be able to purchase CD/DVD capable printers from the UK and get them shipped (flown ?) over.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  20. I had the Casio before but it was costing to much. The ribbins are like $25 I think.

Right now im leaning towards the Canon but I still got acouple of weeks before I buy this so who knows what comes up by then.

My buddy tells me that his Casio goes through about one ribbon every 50 or 100 discs. I can't remember which he said now ... I think 100 discs is what he said.

Ribbons are sold in packs of 3 for a total of $24.00

Please note that he doesn't get "fancy" at all ... he just prints the title of the movie or TV show(s) etc. in plain black text.

Here in the UK, Epson deny the existence of such a tray - in fact they don't seem that keen to admit there's a problem with it in the first place.
