This one has been pesky to figure out. I'm getting a tape to play but no audio or video coming out. I get a signal on the video out but cant seem to find where its dropping. Anyone have this issue? The service manual took me to Au8 or V11 board.

  2. When you say you can get a signal on "video out," I assume you mean you see some sort of signal on a board, but are not getting a signal on the RCA composite output jack. Is that correct? If so, solder connections are the first thing I'd check. I just repaired an X-10 light controller that had been in service for 30+ years. After pulling and testing half a dozen components I realized there was a short and ended up finding a solder bridge that had been there all those years, but finally started conducting.

More typical are the cold solder joints. I think I've fixed close to a dozen things which had cold solder joints. Note the plural: once you find one cold solder joint, chances are there are probably others.

If there is a way to change between HiFi and linear audio without looking at an onscreen menu (since you have no video), I'd do that to help see if the linear audio path still works. That might help narrow down what signal paths you must trace.

Finally, connectors are always the weakest link. Make sure you've properly reconnected everything you removed, and after doing that, remove and then reconnect all other connectors that you think might be in the signal path.

thanks I solved it. It was a bad cap on the V11 board.
