the sony rdr-hx825 encrypts the recordings saved on the hdd, it seems to encrypt every content since even analog tv recordings are unplayable, if i play part of mpeg file on a pc it shows as a gray background with some blocks appearing, it can recognize the correct resolution and even flag ac3 audio but it's unplayable, i have analyzed with an hex editor and i found some repeated sequences like "Sony RDR-HX65 06082201", it has the regular mpg index, only the video itself is not decoded correctly.
I will send parts of the mpg if you want to look. When burning to a dvd the content gets decrypted in real time, no high speed dubbing is possible.
Do you think it's possible to figure out which encryption it uses? Since it's a 20+ year old recorder i'm guessing it can't use some hard encryption.
The filesystem is HDDFS v0.01 which seems to be used by some other dvd recorders but no program can read it, isobuster will find a 150gb mpg file with some .ifo files
