Can anyone tell me why this happens? If it doesn't windowbox it will pillarbox. On a 4:3 tv why isn't a 4:3 movie filling the screen?
I am using a Roku Express + 2018 model connecting wirelessly to my network and porting the signal out through the included composite cable.
Is there a setting I should check and change or is this the way it is supposed to be and I just have to live with it?
Many thanks and I apologise if this is covered elsewhere. Feel free to redirect me. I did countless searches on this and other forums and nothing really seemed to address this very issue.

Hm guess the Rokou itself is set to 4:3. There is a possibility Turner Classic Movies outputs 4:3 programming with additional black bars to pad the content into a 16:9 frame, like Disney+'s treatment of 4:3 seasons of The Simpsons

Look for letterbox or full screen setting is available in the Roku. What else have you tried so far?

On the Roku Express +, the only settings are 4:3 and 16:9. I've tried both but it displays the same. I suspect The 14th Doctor is correct. No doubt this would never happen on the Tardis!
Regardless, it isn't a huge deal as this is an old CRT in my office that I've had since 1997 and I was wondering why it does that. I have also seen it with programming on other channels so it likely is the fact that station programmers assume everyone is watching content on a 16:9 by now..
