  1. Hi

I have dvd recorder that is dvix certifed(bought back in dec 06). I know that if it is not ultra certifed(found out a couple week after that there where different lvs of certification) so it can't play menus(what is so stupid how they force you to buy ultra certifed to get menu support pisses me off so much it makes me want divx format to fail)

So with that said is there anway I can get a menu to work or some kind of alternative because I am not going go run out and buy a more expensive player because they decided to make it that you need to basicly buy a more expensive model to get menu support.

And right now divx is kinda useless to me if I want to have more then 1 video on it since when I burn it and play it the videos are all out of order. So you know it would go from like video 1 to video 3 to video 2.

So without a menu it quite useless.

I know someone probabily will go if you don't like it don't use it but one of the reasons I bought the dvd recorder was for divx since it cuts down on converting so if there is away I can get it to play in the right order or something else then I might use it(or maybe someone make something to get by this). But right now it is almost useless.

You can make a Divx Ultra menu, but your player will ignore it unless it has the Ultra hardware/firmware. I don't think it's worth buying a new player just for that feature.

But your problem with the file order might be cured by labeling them, A, B, C. Computers seem to have a difficult time with numbering. Sometimes 01, 02, 03 works. I would suspect 1, 2, 3 will come out 2, 3, 1 most of the time. That's probably not the player causing the number problem, more likely the computer when you burn the disc.

You have to have a DVD player that is Ultra DivX 6.x capable. I know the Philips DVP-5140 and Philips DVP-5960 are two such capable DVD players.

I believe the DVD player has to specify ULTRA DIVX and not just DIVX support.

As I stated in my first post mine is not ultra certified it is only certified so it can't play menus. I am looking for ways around this or some type of alternative.

1.) Deal with having no menus for DivX content.
2.) Buy a Ultra DivX capable DVD player.

I mean the whole menu thing is a nice idea but is it really needed? All MPEG-4 capable DVD players will give you a simple menu. Sure it is kinda ugly but it still let's you pick what file(s) to play.

I see no work around other than dealing without it or buying a Ultra DivX capable DVD player. I mean if you MUST have such a thing then the Philips DVP-5140 is pretty darn cheap as WALMART sells it at just under $50 US Dollars.

Oh and you say your files are out of order? If you name them the same they will NOT be out of order. For instance I just burned an entire season of THE DEAD ZONE (a TV show) onto a DVD-R for playback in my DivX capable DVD player and I named the episodes like this:

    DZ1x01.avi
    DZ1x02.avi
    DZ1x03.avi
    DZ1x04.avi

DZ means DEAD ZONE and the 1 after that means season 1 and the x01 means episode 1 and x02 means episode 2 etc.

They play in order this way and I'm just using the menu that you get with the DivX player. In other words I just burned the DVD-R as a DATA DVD.

Well buying a new dvd player is not a option I just bought on a month ago and not going to run out and buy another one for menus.

I am unclear about this part

"All MPEG-4 capable DVD players will give you a simple menu"

This is the dvd player I have http://www.liteonit.com/global/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=41&Itemid=81

When I tired buring some divix files I was unable to make a simple menu(my dvd player would also not generated a simple menu for me). I don't care if they look ugly or what as long as it has the name of the show and then I can click on it.

Whole point of divx for me is too cut down on converting instead of a show taking me hours to convert it would only take a couple mins because I could play divx.

So could you explain that into more detail.

You just burn your MPEG-4 AVI files (be they DivX or Xvid) to a CD-R or DVD-R and you do that burning as a DATA DISC. This is something that NERO can do (also other burning programs).

Then when you put that CD or DVD into a MPEG-4 capable DVD player the player makes it's own (very simple and usually ugly but always functional) menu. The menu will just list the AVI files and you pick the one you want to watch with the remote. Usually when one file is done playing it will go on to play the next file automatically (this is why proper naming of the files is important) unless you hit the MENU button on your remote control (or STOP which should bring you back to the menu).

When naming files you want to stick to the old school 8.3 file name system. That means no more than 8 characters for the name and then the ".AVI" at the end (hence the .3). So an example would be "sickporn.avi" or whatever.

Let us say you have 10 sickporn AVI clips. You would name them "sporn01.avi" and "sporn02.avi" all the way up to "sporn10.avi"

This way they will appear in order on the menu ... you can read the whole filename ... and if you want to play the first and have it continue then you know what order they will play in.

As far as I know all MPEG-4 AVI capable DVD players make their own simple menu for displaying the files on the disc.
