  1. hello:

I just got a hdtv card and as expected from ati I am having a installation nightmare.

First I got the error "dtv player failed to initialize".

    I found this

    http://www.ati.com/support/infobase/4586.html

and installed "DTVQFE" separately and that fixed the dtv tuner problem.

but the regular tv player will not play and gives the "failed to intialize" message.

I am running windows xp sp2

    anybody has suggestions?

    thanx

  2. Before I even tried the install on my own I followed all of the steps listed at Tomshardware review article on the hdtv wonder here...

    http://graphics.tomshardware.com/video/20040917/index.html

Go to the "Finally Getting It To Work" section of the article for a pain free installation; hopefully

Don't expect too much from this thing it's a pretty bad hdtv card. There is the infamous "stuttering" problem you might... excuse me "will" face. And certain 720p channel/broadcasts aren't properly recognized by the card and so you have to jump to a 720p channel/broadcast that it does recognize and then jump back to the unrecognizable 720p channel/broadcast in order to get it to work. I have one station with two channels 4-1 and 4-2; 4-2 is 1080i and displays fine but 4-1 is 480i and no matter what I've done just can't get 4-1 to display and it has a constant signal strength of 85-88%.

ATI's dtv "On Demand" feature means whenever you fire up the DTV player it will constantly record whatever your watching and so far I haven't found a way to turn this feature off.

The card was so bad that I relegated it to a "casual" use box and it now serves as a half-assed set top box.

I myself am wrestling with this card also.

Here are a couple of busy threads on these cards:
