  1. Hi

Can anyone tell me how I can open and watch a tar archive file please?

I have tried Winace but that doesn't seem to do it.

    Thanks in advance

IceOws is a nice free compression/de-compression utility that can handle .tar archives >

sounds like you're trying to open a linux file. If you're using Linux, you should have file roller which will open it. Then you probably need to ./configure the make then make install. If you're on Windows, there should be a windows version of the file somewhere in a .zip or .rar or .ace format. Normally, .tar files are just for linux, but i do think you can open em in windows but have never really tried.

    Hope this helps.

There are many ways to measure success. You just have to find your own yardstick.

  6. Thanks for your help. I have used winrar and it has extracted the files but not in a way that I can view them on Windows Media Player.

  8. They are now bin files

  9. You can mount them on a virtual drive using Daemon Tools to view them, or burn them to a disc and watch them (or it) that way.

  10. Can I burn them straight to DVD?

  11. I have found that now I have extracted the file with winrar, I can view them on Media Player, and load it into TMPGenc. Is it possible to extract the audio with Virtual dub before loading it into TMPGenc.

    Thanks

  12. Tmpgenc doesn't seem to encode it, it starts and does about half an hour but then stops.

Does anyone have any other straightforward ideas please.
