    I have this movie on my computer, in avi format, and when I play it with Media Player, the movie starts to flash. I'm guessing I need a codec but I don't know which one.

    Might be macrovision if its flashing light and dark, It could be but I doubt it's a codec problem.

    ATI + bad or old source tape = False MV detection (at least that's what I think it is)

    Here's a article I wrote, if it looks the same it can't be fixed without additional external video hardware at least to the best of knowledge and I tried everthing. I even disconnected amn moved my speakers across the room . www.nepadigital.com/mv/

    I also want to point out that the same home movie used in my tests on that page captured perfectly with a canopus advc 110. I haven't added this information yet.
