  1. Ok,
I have this file with a MPG extension I got off the net.
    (it is not copyrighted material).

I want to burn it to vcd, so I can watch it my dvd player.
I have done this many time before.

    Usually I do this:
1 - Dl file in mpg, or divx, or avi (whatever).
2 - convert to vcd with tmpgenc.
3 - burn with nero (I have a purchased copy).
    4 - watch and enjoy!

Ok, this time, when trying to convert, the file crashed after about 20seconds in tmpgenc. It produces the output, but it just locks after 20 seconds.

The source plays in windows media player.
    Tmpeg says it is :
    MPEG-1 280x208 30fps CBR 1150kbps, Layer-2 44100Hz 128kbps

I tried to use mpgfix, but the file it produced wont even play.
I tried to load it into virtdub, but for some reason it thinks it is ASF, and give that whole MS big brother warning.
I tried and ASF fix program, and it says it is NOT asf.

    Suggestions?
My system is win98se, 192mb ram, celery 266.
I have converted many videos with no problem.

    DP.

  2. i have tmpgenc 12a (oldie but goodie) and 2.5 and neither likes getting mpegs as source

i use virtual dub to frameserve to tmgenc (doesnt add any overhead imo)

    http://www.vcdhelp.com/convert.htm#frameserve

i frameserve about 99% of the time cause it generally helps avoid sync errors and other source related probs.

  3. try switching the files extention from .mpg to .asf... a lot of files that can be DLed are actually switched like that... one way you can usually tell is if media player plays it like an asf file... usually has that little "sun smiley" icon and takes forever to scan to different parts of the file.

  4. I will try changing the file extension.

I will also read the frameserving thing.
(I understand the concept of fs, but have never done it).
