I'm going back to the video boards where I was a member before coming here ...Dazzle Geek (new name for Heyday's DVCII board), Snazzi, Spawn's, Ian Norman's, ...and posting about our board. Not spamming ...just a friendly note from a fellow member there that there is life beyond the confines of those good, but much smaller boards.

I don't know how many of you had been to Heyday's board 2 years ago, but it used to be an extremely busy place. Then interest in the DVCII started to dry up, and being locked into a single hardware platform spelled doom for it. The same for the Snazzi board, although that was much smaller. Dazzle Geek is what Heyday's board is now called, under the leadership of phonefree. It's a continuation of the original board because there was so much good technical information exchanged there, nobody could stand the thought of it going away.

Heyday's board, with Ian Norman's help, was the place the famous Reg3A=1 fix for the DVCII SAA7114 Philips prescaler was first published ...for those of you who know what I'm talking about. This was a breakthrough in locking the audio and video clocks, and improved sync immeasurably.

I've already gotten responses by PM and I've given them the quick "no warez, no spam, read the AUP" drill. Then I've directed them to the tech forums and recommended that they stop by in the OT - they might like it. I still have a few boards to visit tonight, but we might be seeing some noobs (to this board ...not to the hobby) show up.

Please don't send them screaming away in horror.

Just kidding folks. I know we're behaving nicely and we welcome noobs. Right? ... ....right? Boy are they in for it

My first full-time capture device was a DVC-II, and I did my homework before I mastered that thing. The key to my Dazzle nirvana was moving the PCI card into a computer with an Intel chipset and a massive power supply. Funny that I never had clocksync issues, but I purchased my DVC-II right before it was discontinued, so maybe I had an updated unit.

    The thing still works fine.

The DVCII still is in service and has a huge following. It was one of the first quality video and audio capture boards with powerful enough software and flexible capturing options. Provideo also had some good early boards around the time DVCII was in its glory (2002).

Sure. They don't have to stay if they don't like it

None of my old boards have a true "Off Topic" area. The "General Discussion" areas got the OT stuff mostly, but there wasn't a specific place to talk about families or jobs, for example. The last board I belonged to before this one that had a real OT was CD Freaks. Because of the similarities, I think the need for an OT forum is driven by size too.

My older boards (mentioned in top post) were all pretty small and intensely technical. I had suggested OT areas, but it wasn't warmly received. But then, the top posters there had like 1600 posts or so. They were there only 20 minutes a day and gone. It took 3 days sometimes before a post would be answered.

CD Freaks, on the other hand, is a huge board. It has an active OT area, with allowable language and rules similar to our board here.

  6. I heard Mr. Jack Valenti is still out there. I know he's no longer the MPAA "head guy." But word is, he still trolls the board here.....

Isn't it too funny that Jack has a movie credit on IMDB and it's a PORN video

Maybe. But I was thinking more along the lines of this:

Because some dude is grabbing his ass

That's an un-chopped photo too. Just reduced the size to fit.

What kind of a man are you? The guy is unconscious in a coma and you don't have the guts to kiss his girlfriend?

This was a classic threadjack. No pun intended. I was going to split the thread off when Jack appeared, but you already had started the smiling thread, so I'll leave it alone
