I am using two HP recorders in Win XP. They are:
1) CD-Writer 9900j (on HP site as 9900ci). This is a CD-RW/DVD combo drive with respectable specifications.
2) DVD100i, a CD-RW & DVD+RW writer.
I installed them both by plugging them in- that's it! They have internal drivers and Win XP knows all about them.
The only problems I ran into were related to trying to use the latest XP updates for Roxio ECDC Platinum-- ALL of the CD drives disappear from my system and removing the software does not solve the problem. I needed to use the System Restore feature (very, very handy) to get the bad drivers removed and the system back to working condition. -
