  1. I downloaded a movie torrent, and I checked to make sure I downloaded everything from the torrent and it didn't just skip a file. When I go into dvdshrink to burn, I try opening the VIDEO_TS folder, and it says:

"Dvd Shrink has encountered an error and cannot continue.

    Failed to open file "C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents\My Videos\Name of Movie\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_1.VOB

The system cannot find the file specified."

    Any suggestions?

Another question, if I download a disk image, what exactly is it? Just a copy of the whole disk? And if I were to download one and open it in dvdshrink, could I burn straight to a dvd?

  3. Assuming this is a public domain DVD...

    1. Most likely something is wrong with the authoring of the DVD. I had this same problem with some DVDs where I tried to take too much content out with DVD Stripper before shrinking. You can burn it if it is already less than 4.38GB size with another program like nero or burn4free or whatever else floats your boat. But realize that the DVD may not play or may freeze up when trying to access certain parts of the DVD. Your best bet is to take the movie files and make a new IFO file with IFOedit and then burn. That way you have a fully compliant DVD and it won't freeze up on you and shrink won't cough on it, if you feel the need to use shrink for some reason.

    2. A disc image is a replication of a CD or DVD usually. You can burn disc images with DVD Decrypter. DVD Shrink is not a burning program, it uses other programs to do the burning for it like DVD Decrypter

    Hope this helps

Alright, I got ifoedit and tried opening the VIDEO_TS folder, and then when I go to create new IFO's in VOB extras, it doesn't make an IFO. Can you explain to me step by step how to make a new IFO out of it? Sorry if the questions seem newbish, it's because I am a newb.

  5. Okay take the VOB files that are the movie and the movie only, put them in a separate folder. Open up IFOedit and there is an option on the bottom to create IFO files. Select the first VOB file in your movie (where you just put the VOB files) and select same destination for IFO file. The white box below should be greyed out now. Click okay and within a few seconds (or minutes) you will have a brand new IFO file that your DVD player will thank you for in the morning, and DVD shrink won't cough on it.

Enjoy your public domain movie. When I get home from work tonight I will download some and put them to DVD. Provided I have the time to complete this project of mine.

Hopefully by releasing a public domain DVD someone will want to buy it from me or I can release it on bittorrent. I mean who wouldn't want all the TGPO movies on a DVD. I know I do!

I don't know why you seem to think that everything has to be opened in DVDShrink.

If you download a disk image, chances are it is 4.377GB or less and you can just burn using your favorite burning software.

Can you list the files you have in your VIDEO_TS folder ?
    If in doubt, Google it.

When I try opening the first vob file (named video_ts.vob) it says "could not find any vob unit in vob file(s)"

The files in my video_ts folder are:

    Video_ts.ifo
    Video_ts.vob
    Video_ts.bup
    VTS_01_0.ifo
    VTS_01_0.bup
    VTS_01_5.vob
    VTS_02_0.ifo
    VTS_02_0.bup
    VTS_03_0.ifo
    VTS_03_0.bup
    VTS_04_0.ifo
    VTS_04_0.vob
    VTS_04_0.bup
    VTS_04_1.vob
    VTS_04_2.vob
    VTS_04_3.vob
    VTS_04_4.vob
    VTS_05_0.ifo
    VTS_05_0.bup
    VTS_05_0.vob

    Thanks again guys.

When I open that file it plays the very end of the movie. It's 314 MB.

  10. I think its actually part of the VTS_04_xx.vob.

Try change the file name into VTS_04_5.vob, and do nothing else and see if Shrink recognizes it.

After you changed the name and Shrink still doesn't sees it, try use IFOEdit to correct the VTS sectors. ( Will show you step by step.)

After changing the name it still doesn't want to open it. I guess I'll try using IFOedit when you give me the step by step. Thanks.

  12. Ok,

    Download IFOEdit and install.

Open IFOEdit, click on the ' OPEN ' button over at the bottom left of the window.

Navigate to the files, and select > VIDEO_TS.IFO.
The files will be opened up in both upper and lower pane of the window.

Now look for the buttons> Get VTS Sector at the center bottom of the window, and click on it.

There'll be few popups for you to confirm, just click yes to everyone of them.
After its done, click the button > SAVE, and also confirm with yes.

Exit. You can try the files with Shrink again.

BUT, if there are no popups after you click the Get VTS Sector button, you'll probably have to get IFO Update to update the new vob files first.

Anyway, hope IFOEdit alone will work, I only used IFOUpdate once long time ago, don't even remember what did I do... If all failed, do get the IFO Update and do some reading over at Doom9's site on how to use the program. Or maybe another experience member can help you with that.

    Good Luck

    P.S.
There is another way around if all failed, remove/delete all the files except the VTS_04_xx.vob files, and re-create a whole new IFO sets with IFOEdit.
Just make sure the VTS_01_5 is renamed to VTS_04_5.vob.

  13. Okay it looks like you open the wrong file with IFOedit. It looks to me that the actual movie files are VTS_04_1.vob - VTS_04_4.vob This can be easily checked just open up the folder where the files are and look at the file sizes for the VOBs. I am guessing but, VTS_04_1.vob - VTS_04_3.vob should be 1GB and VTS_04_4.vob will be less than 1GB. These are the files that are the movie. That other stuff is extra stuff. You need to take these 4 files and move them to a separate folder. Then do what I suggested earlier. Sorry for not making that clear earlier.

Edit: Or do what is suggested above and below this post, yeah I forgot you would have to rename VTS_04 to VTS_01. well you should be all set now.

    VTS_05_0.vob
    OK, I've worked it out.

The reason why you are having problems with this is because the DVD structure is all fooked up. A DVD must have something in VTS_01 at all times to be compliant. For some reason it looks like the main movie is in VTS_04, and there is nothing in VTS_01 so Shrink cracks the shites with it.

This is what I think you should do:

    1. Rename VTS_04_1.VOB to VTS_01_1.VOB, VTS_04_2.VOB to VTS_01_2.VOB, VTS_04_3.VOB to VTS_01_3.VOB, & VTS_04_4.VOB to VTS_01_4.VOB.

    2. Move all files except VTS_01_1.VOB, VTS_01_2.VOB, VTS_01_3.VOB, VTS_01_4.VOB, & VTS_01_5.VOB to a different directory (we will not need them).

    3. Open IFOEdit. Hit Create New IFOs button. Nominate VTS_01_1.VOB and press OK.

    4. Place newly-created VIDEO_TS.IFO, VIDEO_TS.BUP, VTS_01_0.IFO, & VTS_01_0.BUP and the VOB files into the same directory if they are in different ones.

    5. Close IFOEdit and re-open it. Open your VIDEO_TS.IFO button and press the DVD-Play button. If you get an error saying "DVD Volume could not be located, do you wish to continue" press Yes. If the movie starts playing, try navigating through the chapters. If all is well then job's right.

    6. Burn resulting output as per normal.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  15. Wow, you guys are amazing. One more question though, with the last post I got curious as to what the other files were so I opened VTS_04_0 and it was the menu. Should I rename that to VTS_01_0 and keep that in the folder along with VTS_01_1 VTS_01_2 etc?
    Quote Quote
  16. No, once you chose the option to re-create the IFO files, the menu will be wiped out.
Thats why I advice you to try to use the other methods first, to see if you can preserve the original files.

  17. Wow, you guys are awesome. After renaming those files and recreating the ifos it worked perfectly. Thanks a lot.
